Ok I have a campsite that has space and told me as long as we don't need electric hook ups they see no problem with taking a group of us. I said it would be about 12 of us... and his reply was "mid week is no problem, we only get fully booked on weekends, so if you phone up and book for the Wed/Thursday through to the Sunday on you will get a pitch". It's not the campsite on the beach at Llangennith but as I said before that site doesn't like people to book in advance and I thought some people that were coming from a long way or with children would prefer to have a booked pitch before they arrived.

The site is Kennexstone Camping and touring Park. PLEASE DO NOT MENTION FIRE SPINNING WHEN BOOKING. We obviously cannot spin fire on the site and it would only put the owners off allowing you to camp if they thought you might. I ask any of you before booking to read the rules of their park and be sure you feel you can stick to them before you book. If you don't think you can, please don't book. One person annoying them and getting thrown out could get the rest of us thrown out too. Thanks smile ubbrollsmile

You can of course take your chance of their being space free at Hillend Campsite and just turn up on the day. The site is lovely and right next to the beach that I would recommend we all meet up at. I think Jon and I will probably be trying to camp here, just because it's a stones throw from the beach.

So who's up for a chilled weekend on the Gower?

[edit]For those not wishing to camp, there is a Youth Hostel too

And for the rich biatches amongst us how about here smile

I vote we get in touch with the scout camp, here in Bristol. They easily have the space, and toilet/shower facilities...

Nothing is more fun all year, or more stress relieving.

I hope we can meet up somewhere somehow but it won't be the same.

I just want to point out even though it's been cancelled I'm amazed at how quickly you reacted trying to find new locations. In my opinion, no matter where you have it, you'll still be celebrating/enjoying Play. biggrin

place in the Rain = Tents. Gazebos. the trees.

outdoor lighting = the sun. Fire. (because we'll be allowed fire at this place) wink

I am already missing all the hugs... sad but still going toto camp somewhere... and maby have a chilled out party ......

so for shelter I have a 3x9 m party gazeebo with sides and a 6x6m army tent. couple this up with loads of small gazebos and tarps an you could have a decent-ish chill out area but not enough height for the jugglers....

for power, battery lighting and a genny or 2 .. although limited. then rely on good weather and all we need is somewhere to do it. ....

and finding somewhere with water and toilets... and very cheap... not proving to be easy..

asy suggestions... any one got a huge back garden???

kev smile

p.s. dunc, i have a bar available for your fund raisers... big hug 2 u

its all about the fun fun fun fun and more fun...

How sad :-( Fraid I can't help with suggestions for a venue for this year as its fully booked until September, however I know the lovliest farmer. His barn was my wedding reception venue and he allowed us to have fire spinning, a flame throwing fire engine, a fire works show and play amplified music for 2 days :-) The cost to hire the barn and camp shared between 100 people or so to camp would be very reasonable, there are toilets (no showers) and a lovely friendly farmer. Leave no trace policy in place and no fireworks after 11pm so as not to annoy the nice quiet villagers but its the perfect place for a weekend of fun.

Come faeries, take me out of this dull world, for I would ride with you upon the wind and dance upon the mountains like a flame.

damn, this really sucks, i've missed play every year and had been sooooo excited to finally make it now that i'm back in uk.

Anyhoo, since everyone is free and up for a festival I definitely think we should have a get together.

 Written by

at such short notice we have been unable to find anything that is compatible with our requirements, also as we are now (Wednesday 9th July) within 10 working days of the event a new license cannot be arranged in time to ensure the festival takes place on the original dates and remains legal

I don't think there's much people really need, other than some space to spin and pitch a tent. So what's the deal with licensing? Can it be switched to a new location? Do you need a licence for a gathering organised in exchange for donations? Do you need a license if a load of random people all turn up at the same camp site at the same time?

hmmm... I'm sure we can all figure something out.

Hugs all round.

Entry fee has no bearing on the license, licensable activity basically covers:

Playing amplified music (which would cover band, shows, ambient music etc)

Selling alchocol

It's also to ensure local authorities are aware of large gatherings where licensable activity takes place.

We can't have something like play without a licence but if a lot of people want to gather in tent in a feild/on a beach I would imagine there'll be no worries for the rozzers or the council. Hell we did it enough times in Falmouth smile Not that I'm advising what is/isn't acceptable to local authorities of course! smile

No they wouldn't let us switch our license to another location which was basically the nail in the coffin for PLAY ubbcrying

A lot of poeple are naturally asking 'is there anything we can do' but believe me, we searched every avenue of every possibility before making the really REALLY hard decision to pull the plug, thre really were no options left for us as a legal event.....on a brighter note our desperate search for a new location has thrown up lots of possibilities for a new location, one of which is probably one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen in my life smile Next years location will be a long way away from standing water! lol

frown So sorry to hear about this, wasn't going to manage to make it but have heard about how fantastic it is each year. hug to all the organisers and Play peoples.

Don't know how viable an alternative it is but the Carvin convention is happening around the same time if its possible to make it?

So, somewhere in the thread was mention of both refunds and of raising money for next year's.

I'm due a refund, but if it could somehow be worked that way, I'm quite happy to have already got next year's ticket (or a significant chunk of it) if that sort of thing (by enough of us) is going to help.

I'm sadly in the opposite position. I have spent out a huge amount of money on making hoops and hat stocks to trade at the festival and now am really short on cash as I won't be able to sell anything to recoup that cash. I'm wondering what the time frame is for the money being refunded. I would love to be able to say "keep it" but I'm just too skint to be able to do that and I'm sure there are others like me. frown

Wot no play?! i've had a few spolit camping trips in Wales, due to the weather. Thats partly why i had reservations about coming this year. Lucky it got washed out now and not whilst the festival was on, really. Otherwise they'd be a more than a few drowned hippies floating about!
