First off, a brief intro to ME:

I am a highly energetic mother of a 2 y/o son (who LOVES my poi swinging!), wife of a PHENOMENAL man, and a full-time speech pathologist who works with patients after brain injury. eek what a full life!

I have watched poi at Burningman for a few years, and decided this year that I would do it myself now. I initially was interested in doing fire "fingers" as I found that to be so mesmerizingly beautiful and graceful. But, I also love the kinesthetic flow and mental focus of poi swinging. weavesmiley

I finally ordered my fire poi a few weeks ago, thinking I was about ready for the real thing. After watching Shireen's video from Pele's Element (excellent investment), and practicing for a few months now I feel fairly comfortable in not hitting myself too much (mainly on newer moves and transitions, espec. if I'm tired), I can spin for a few minutes without a tangle or colliding with myself.

Okay, so 2 nights, it was, like, 20 degrees, but I made my hubby come outside, camera in hand, fire extinguisher nearby (LOL) and I LIT EM UP!

What a RUSH!!!!!!

I was terrified the whole time, paranoid about lighting myself, the deck, the house, the dry, frozen grass on fire, but I survived unscathed!!

Okay, I got some questions now.

1. How dangersous is the overspray on the ground? On myself? It felt fine and not heavy, but still... (I used lamp oil - citronella, no less!)

2. What fabric (clothing wise) is safest for spinning? I don't IMAGINE I'd lite up like a torch if I hit myself briefly, but don't want to melt myself either. In the summer, I suppose NO clothing is BEST biggrin

3. For filming, what settings on a camera are best at night (if you have experience with this)? The footage seemed REALLY dark, and all you could see was the flame, not much trail.

Any answers would be much appreciated!!!! I loved it! But I still feel nervous. How do I get rid of THAT?

I'm sure I will have MANY more questions as time progresses, but that was all I could think of for now.
Devirginized, again...

My state of mind is not yours to define!

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

A couple of balls short of a full cascade... or maybe a few cards short of a deck... we'll see how this all fans out.
