Hello

wavehello

hmmmmmm what to write about me as an intro.....damn its make or break time. First impressions are so vital. Oooooo the pressure.

I'm living in South Wales but originate from Essex (No I don't own White stillettos and No I'm not an Essex girl!). I don't bite, I do pinch, I love chocolate and I one day plan on learning lots of stuff I can't do yet.

Hobbies:- include juggling, balls juggleand clubs , Diablo, poi, doodling, music, hating housework (dust is natures way of showing what the burglars have stolen), making things, pulling things to bits (mainly to see how they work) , embarrassing my nieces and nephews (great fun hobbie that all aunties should take up), hugging trees and talking to bees (watch out for the squirrels......they ARE out to get you!)

Ambitions:- Never to grow up. Learn how to burn things safely ubbangel To that ends learning how to poi without stunning myself, blacking my eye or turning myself into a human torch. Learn to play more than one tune on the guitar. Rule the World. Learn to Surf. Conquer my fear of heights. Travel the world in a van with a man named Bob ("why Bob?" you ask...well why not Bob? I'm sure there are loads of nice men called Bob out there! Simons and Johns need not apply).

Boring stuff:- work in sales to pay the bills.

I have just been outside battling with the ever attacking brambles that smother my garden. I'm attempting to cut them all back so I can then dig up all the roots and lay turf. Its not going to be easy and its taking me forever to even make a dent in them. Anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of brambles and or where I can get long gauntlet gloves that are impenetrable to the ouchy thorns? I know if you leave any scrap of them in the ground they grow back and have been told the only way is weed killer, but I'm loathed to spray those many chemicals about. I desperately want to reclaim the garden so I have somewhere to learn staff and before the garden claims the house!

ok, well now until the end of the year is the perfect time to get rid of them, they have little light or energy to grow back properly. Unfortunately that also means new turf may not take so well so it could be worth while leaving turf till spring time, or put it in in a few weeks but leave it free from mowing till spring and you won't be able to practice on it over winter. If you put turf down now you'll wear it away by spring and be left with big brown patches of mud from your feet. Trust me on this, my garden has that appearence currently.

You need leather clothes to be completely impenetrable (sp?) to the thorns, or just a thick pullover, jeans, leather gloves, sensible shoes and a strong constitution. Expect to bet pricked like you expect to get hit by poi when you first start, it's inevitable and not really all that bad.

Electric hedgetrimmers are great on brambles, but don't forget to wear eye protection. Randomly swipe the little buggers till they're in a pil of little twigs on the floor, then you can shovel them all into a box/bag for the bin or preferably compost them.

When using electrical equipment such as this always wrap a length of the cord around your shoulders from where it leaves the trimmers to help it avoid being chopped and thus electrocuting yourself.

A big HURRAH for not using weedkiller, it is the chemical scum of lazy people. Even burning is better than weed killing it all, at least its natural.

Howzzat! biggrin hug

YAY Dunc..... now would you like to come over with a few other people to do it? Its a long long way off turfing..... there is a narrow entrance to the garden which is blocked by the brambles. I have got about 3 ft into the entrance bit using only secateurs. I think I need a billhook, digger and flame thrower!
