Hey guys, just found this site and it looks absolutely great! I've been wanting to take up poi for ages, but succoming to the stress of finals at uni I've finally decided to actually get on with it and start the long learning process! What sort of poi/cord would you advice an absolute beginner to start out with? I will be doing it mostly outside if that has any bearing on it.

Hope you can help guys!

The general next step for cheap poi would be to move on to shoe strings and glowsticks.

A bit more painful when you mess up...but sometimes that is the best way to learn. I am sure that I can speak for everyone in that eventually you get used to the beatings inflicted by glowsticks, and that it can be a good motivational factor for not messing up!

i find glow sticks are sooooo different to spin with tho (am v. used to my glow poi atm) mostly they are a lot lighter and therefore throw me out a little.

Ahh the wonderful differences in poi heads....glow sticks that spin faster cuz of lighter weight....tailed heads that get tangled lest you do the tirck just perfect....fire heads that will set you ablaze at a moments notice.....

ISN'T POI JUST FULL OF WONDERFUL SUPRISES!!!!

Ahh yes, but that is why we love poi so much though right??? The complexity...ther thrill...the whelts...the cuts and gashes. I am beginning to think that the love part has something to do with an S & M type themespank!
