Now why would they want nukes after that?

_________________________________________________________________________
In before "why do you hate america" Kael?

My perspective. I was always against the Iraq war. Simply going in after Saddam because he had/might have had WMD's was a ridiculous reason; Especially considering that during the Reagan administration we sold Saddam the technology for chemical weapons so he would gas the Iranians (who's government we hated more at the time). Since Congress still has incumbent congressmen from the Reagan administration, no one wants to admit they signed the bill selling chemical weapons tech to Iraq, which we apparently went to get rid of in this war. Turns out Saddam didn't have them anyway, they were already used or beyond their shelf life. Congratulations on the clusterfuck Congress and Bush.

Now we're seeing commercials for supporting the bombing of Iran. I don't want them to get nukes either. But considering we're raping their neighbor Iraq for oil and contracts (Did I mention I [censored] hate Halliburton?) to rebuild their country and that we pretty much screwed them in the past, I could see why Iran would want them. World War 3 anyone?

Not to mention our rivals China and Russia have lucrative contracts with Iran. It's almost like declaring war on them but not!

Best case scenario? Open conversation between the middle eastern countries, especially Iran, Syria, Israel, and the current lackeys in Iraq. Thwart the worse case scenario... can you say, 'glass parking lot'?

Parting thought - wikipedia on Iran
 Written by:

Tens of thousands of Iranian civilians and military personnel were killed when Iraq used chemical weapons in its warfare. Iraq was financially backed by Egypt, the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf, the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact states, the United States (beginning in 1983), France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, and the People's Republic of China (which also sold weapons to Iran). All of these countries provided intelligence, agents for chemical weapons as well as other forms of military assistance to Saddam Hussein. Iran's principal allies during the war were Syria, Libya, and North Korea.

With more than 100,000 Iranian victims[37] of Iraq's chemical weapons during the eight-year war, Iran is the world's second-most afflicted country by weapons of mass destruction, only to Japan.

Iran wants nukes to keep off the US and to eventually wipe Israel off the map (by the time nobody is watching)... the US (as you well put it) has always been at war with Iran, simply because (in the beginning ) nobody was watching and then it might have become simply a habitual pattern (when everybody started watching)...

Mr. Bush wants to attack Iran, because (like a T-shirt states (with the images of Hitler and himself side-by-side)): Same sh*t - different a**hole.

But maybe it's so, because the republicans really don't want to put forth the next president and need the democrats to clean up the mess they left (just to successfully run for presidency 2012 (which will then fullfill the mayan calendar and end all times))...

Then again, maybe it's simply to the fact that we need (enough) international conflicts, so we are diverted from our internal conflicts and destracted (whilst the polyticksian cast is taking all the dough, i.e.:

"these ppl" know that this planet is going down any which way (even if we're saving on CO2 and shopping bags) - do not believe in reincarnation, "learned" what (their) life is really worth and are simply humming a corrupted/ perverted version of the old Bobbie Marley song, whilst they fill their pockets... shrug )

I'll stop now, before I completely go astray rolleyes

But thanks for putting it all together so nicely illustrated hug wink

Posted:I made this thread because the other thread is about "Why America hates Iran" because of oil, nukes, and other factors. This thread is along the lines of "why Iran would want nukes in the first place". I'm not apologizing or saying that it's okay that they have nukes, but rather that I see the situation that they're in.

I recently read an article in the local Utah paper which stated that America has reasons to distrust Iran since the Iranians held the American Embassy hostage in the 1970s. Well, the reason that they did that was because we sabotaged their democratically elected government in the 1950s and they didn't want it to happen again. Oddly enough, the paper failed to mention that we destroyed a budding democracy.

I suppose everything was just date palms and orange happy sunshine before the USA went into Iraq?

What? Iraq han't built any new hospitals in 20 years? What? Half of Iraqi hospitals were closed down years before the USA invaded. What? Inflation was at 12,000%?!?!?

You won't see it on the evening news, because "what bleeds, leads" But the good things happening outweigh the bad 10-1

Contrary to popular belief new infastructure and schools and hospitals are being built every day in iraq, raising the standard of living for everybody. How is this a bad thing? The USA is helping the Iraqi people, despite the efforts of iran to destablize the region.

Does anybody realy think that, if america pulls out of Iraq today, the islamo-facists will all just lay down their arms and have a good "talk" about peace and happiness? Iran is a big part of the problems in the region.

Who is going to stop Iran and North Korea from building nukes? the UN? They can't even stop a genocide by gangsters armed with AKs... what are they going to do about a nuclear arms group of rouge terrorist states....exactly the same thing they have done to stop every genocide in africa.... exactly nothing.

While france and germany and te rest of the world stand around and pout and write "strongly worded condemnations" The USA (and the UK) are going to be the ones doing the dirty word. It's out blood int eh mud, trying to stop a nuclear holocaust.

The OP mentioned Pakistan and India... since when has either of these countries threatened to wipe Israel (or any other country) off the face of the earth? Iran has. Iran is led by a nut job who thinks he can start WW3 and the 12th iman will jump up out of a well or some BS.

Nobody wants war.

But there is a price to pay now, or we can pay it later. If we pay it later it will cost the lives of hundreds of millions. If we pay it now, maybe it will only cost a few tens of thousands.

I'm sure The same arguments were being made in 1936 as Hitler was gaining power. We could have stopped him then, and chose not to.

you can't have a "dialoge" with terrorists who want nothing more than to take over your land, your life, your religeon,

Wouldn't it be nice if we could all just "sit down and have a nice talk" but the world doesn't work that way. Iran will get nukes, and use them, if allowed to. They already have the missles to deliever them. They thumb their noses at the UN and start up more uranium enrichment facilities every day.

I, for one, am tired of the USA being blamed for everything that goes wrong in the world. It's our fault when we DON'T do some thing to stop some other country from killing their own people, it's our fault when we DO something to stop another country from killing it's own people. Everything is OUR fault. rolleyes

How about the world take some responsibility of their own.

Islamo-facism is taking over the world, 250,000 dead every year (mostly in SE asia), innocent women and children and civilians killed at random by islamofacists every year, and rising.

Eurabia Union is going to be the new name of the EU if things keep going like they are. London has what, 1.2 million muslims now? With the younger genereation more and more leaning towards radical islam. (30% of youngsters support having sharia law, according to the latest survey) bet you didn't see that on the bbc. rolleyes

Iran's foreign minister denied on Monday that Tehran wanted to see Israel "wiped off the map," saying President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had been misunderstood.

"Nobody can remove a country from the map. This is a misunderstanding in Europe of what our president mentioned," Manouchehr Mottaki told a news conference, speaking in English, after addressing the European Parliament.

Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki addresses a news conference in Brussels February 20, 2006. [Reuters]

"How is it possible to remove a country from the map? He is talking about the regime. We do not recognize legally this regime," he said.

And I agree with him, Israel's US and English backed behaviour is disgusting and not the correct way to go about it. I am not against Israel, but I am against the way they have acted.

This isn't a thread about Israel though.

Sym, that quote you posted reads like a great big load of rhetorical bullshit. Yea, maybe if Iran did nuke Israel, then Israel would still exist on "the map" it's just the people who live there won't exist anymore.

The IDF isn't known for it's soft and fuzzy approach towards it's enemies, and there's a good chance that they'll strike first once Iran develops nuclear weapons.

Then why are these coutries (and many more) getting bombed and their children beheaded on the way to school? As I said before, 250,000 every year in SE asia are getting killed by islamic extreamists. for what? For not bowing to allah 4 times a day. for their women not wearing burkas and having to audicity to go to school and walk outside alone without the escort of a man, for wearing a bikini (or a shirt that exposes their arms) eek

There is a sad thing happening around the world right now, and it has VERY little to do with USA foreign policy (or past mistakes) . Radical islam is trying to take over the world. And they are being aided passively by their less-radical islamic brothers. There is a liberal minority who speak out against this, but most of them live in literal fear for their lives.

Don't take my word for it, listen to their own words. The trick is, radical islam practices double speak.

In english they say things like "islam is a religeon of peace, we only want equality, etc" Just look at what the iranian president says! He speaks with two toungs.

In their native language, on their own TV, in their own newspapers, they say the oposite. They want to take over the world and are not secrative about it. They even say it in english, if you know where to look.

The leadership of Iran is in the forefront of this radical islamic movement. They don't want to negotiate or talk, they want us all to bow down to allah 4 times a day, they want to subjegate women (as virtual slaves) and role back the clock on human rights. And cut off heads of anyone who says "no" to allah.

radical islam has spread like wildfire across SE asia, and is spreading into europe, too. Their birthrate is 5X the native eurasia population. in a couple generations islam will be the majority, Pay attention to what the younge islamic children are saying. MANY want sharia law. not just a few. They have rejected multi-culturalism and are using our own freedoms of speech and religeon against us. And they laugh at our stupidity while they do it. Look at what has been happening in NYC, in Paris, in London, in Tailand even!

North Korea is allied with Iran. North Korea has heavy water facilities and is making plutonium. Iran is enriching uranium. Venezuelan has uranium ore, and is involved with heavy trade with Iran president/dictator Hugo Chavez is best buds with Iranian nutjob president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

put togeth the pieces. To make a high yeild nuke, you need uranium with a plutonium trigger. And it's really cool to have missles to deliver it, which they have.

You may hate Bush, or the USA, but simply because bush labled them an "axis of evil" does not make it untrue. Look at their actions, not their words.

I'll leave you with clip of an interview of Glenn Beck with a member of the Islamic Thinkers Society (known to do demonstrations in NYC)

PREACHER of hate Abu Izzadeen has called on all Muslims serving in the Army to be killed.

In a vile sermon delivered at a mosque he rages against Muslims that work for the Government and says they should be beheaded. A recording of the rant has emerged just days after police uncovered a terrorist plot to kidnap and murder a 20-year-old British Muslim serving in the Army.

On the recording uncovered by ITN News, Izzadeen, 30, shouts: Whoever allies himself with the Kaffirs (non-believers) against the believers he is one of them. Remember the British Government, my dear Muslim brothers, are crusaders crusaders come to kill and rape Muslims. Whoever joins them he who joins the British Army, he who joins the American army he is a mortal Kaffir. And his only hukum (punishment) is for his head to be removed. Indeed whoever changes his deen (Muslim code of life) kill him.

His sermon was made at Londons Regents Park Mosque in the Summer of 2004.

The Thailand situation is fueled by Muslim separatists, and has been for decades, but even after the recent coup, the violence is escalating and the Buddhists are starting to exact their revenge.
Bali got bombed for entertaining foreign tourists. Bali isn't a Muslim island, they have their own Balinese religion and the Muslims think they should fall into line with the rest of the country.

Dantana, where did you get that figure of 30% from? When I research the issue I keep running into a study done by Munira Mirza that claims that 37% of British Muslim youth ( 16-24 ) support Sharia law. It'll be interesting to see if they get their wish. I figure North America is pretty safe in this respect.

Have you seen the Islamist Thinkers website? It's a real eye opener, good thing there's only like six of them.

I am Thai. For the main part the islamic separatist movement was done in reaction to the hard head PM Thaksin's policies in the south. Now that the head general is in fact muslim, the violence we saw in bangkok recently are those who want the PM reinstated. So what exactly are so evil about the Muslims?

Like I said before, I'm not for Iran having nukes. But we (the US) are the ones with "shock and awe" capabilities and nukes at this moment.

Considering we're the ones with that power, we shouldn't go exercising that power unwisely. As said before, our past actions in the region direct this current conflict and caused those in Iraq and Iran to suffer. Should we fail again, then the situation will get much worse.
