i may be generalising but i'm pretty sure every top model has taken cocaine at some point in their career.
from what i've heard, like champagne and caviar, its almost inseparable from the fashion industry.

i'm not saying its right but she has been targeted by the media and hounded to the point of pretty much ruining her life.

i feel the media, the police and the (massively hippocritical) fashion industry are making a scapegoat of miss moss and its simply over the top.

come on, how is this fair and equal treatment?!

anyone else feel like giving kate a big hug right now?

Moss earns around 4 million pounds a year through commercial contracts...

the most lucrative of which (chanel) is going to end in october and due to the mirror's 'report', will not be renewed.

i get the feeling most of her other contracts will follow where her h&m one has gone i.e. into the bin.

i'm not saying she was in the right, or is some poor starving chiuld that deserves your compassion or pity.

i just don't like seeing this kind of biased, hippocritical scapegoating and it made me want to comment shrug

However,
(doing my little devil's advocate thing)
I don't feel too sorry for her.

Kate has been through this before... and come back to her career again. Stories have been circulating for years about her cocaine habit... and how she was supposed to have kicked it.

Lots of criticism has been laid at the door of her new boyfriend... Pete Doherty (who was chucked out of the Libertines (I think) for cocaine abuse).

This is not some poor woman who will struggle to make ends meet. This is a privileged woman at the top of her game (one of those contracts, btw, was for Rimmel - who market to teens, not such a great example).

She earns more getting out of bed than I would in a year... and I think there is some responsibility attached to such wealth...

She also knew what the press hype would be if she was caught taking drugs again - so why risk it?

Hmmm... perhaps this will be a good thing though... maybe it's what she needs to get herself off it (because it's not as if she's a 'recreational' user)

Actually it was for being a junkie (what likes heroin and that) and nicking stuff and things.

He was also a nasty arrogant little censored to one of Jonny Moohaahaa's mates at a gig a few months ago. Came along and gatecrashed their set, because he decided everyone would rather listen to him rather than the band that was meant to be playing. What a tawt.

I guess one way you can get her off cocaine is to prosecute her or something, leading to the termination of contracts and cut off the money supply?...prolly has too much money in reserve or something to keep her going though...

But if you're trying to get over an addiction, surely it wouldn't help to spend time with someone who is clearly off his tree?

I hope the wee girl gets over this and it doesn't affect her relationship with her daughter... but I don't have too much of a problem with the papers

(apart from the fact there are many other stories they should be focusing on today... eg, that the Iraqi police force is riddled with 'militants' and the British army are training people, giving them guns, and then fighting against them)

personally, i don't agree with the way the fashion/model industry operates as a whole but i do believe in fair and equal treatment - if kate moss' drug habits are exposed, the same should apply to every models.

moss is probably not much worse than a very large percentage of models yet the media makes it seem like she is the only one who regularly takes coke and that's obviously a load of rubbish.

did anyone see the sophie anderton interview a few years back?

it is the media who advertises her drug habit, not her and as such I don't think its very fair that she is losing contracts over it - any model whose drug habits are plastered over the paper would be a bad role model for teens yet it is only kate moss that they choose to hound.

when the police join in the witch-hunt, i personally believe it has gone a little too far...

ubbangel

yeah simon, pete docherty is definitely a bit of a twat.

a massively talented, arrogant, junkie twat that got sh!t on by his 'friends', but still a twat.

hmm, but the amount of money she has and her choice of boyfriend make no difference to whether or not she should be hounded by the media for taking part in an activity which the majority of her industry AND the media industry itself also take part in.

which is, to me, the smelliest layer of onion.

There is no denying, either, that they are hounding her - but that is pretty much the way the industry works... one paper gets the story, then the others have to report it too, for fear of losing readers to the first.

But I think the most direct criticism should be: 'who cares about kate moss when we're arming another country with guns and hatred'

I wonder if a random drugs test went on in The Mirror offices how many of the Journos would test positive for Cocaine use?

I'm not condoning or condemning the use of drugs. My bug bear with the tabloid press isn't an issue of that. It's to do with their hypocrisy.

They have front page headlines condemning sex beasts, pornographers and rapists and then on the inside of the pages they have pictures objectifying women.

They run stories on how shameful and shocking some accident/crime is and then for the next week hound the victims of said accident/crime to get a 'scoop' compounding the stress and pain these people are suffering.

I just find it hard now days to find ANY real news in the Tabloids.

The hypocrisy is definitely there... and it comes from trying to give their readers everything they think they want (and it does sell, after all).

But I don't think it's right to consider all the reporters as drugged up alcoholics themselves.

Some are, no doubt (usually the features writers)... but working in a newspaper is not all fun and games, sitting around deciding who to destroy next.

It's more often than not really hard, demanding work.
Most people working in the media are there to do a good job, they want to produce good news, make a difference and succeed... but you can't dictate the policy of the paper and if your paper doesn't sell, you won't get paid.

However, tabloids do adopt a moral highground - and often don't meet the standards they set for their readers.

Le sigh...

I think drug testing all the journo's and papperazzi and sacking all the ones that test positive would be a great boost to British Journalism. They'd have to find some non snorting ones so the tabloids would all then be run by children - yey!

Posted:Kate Moss will certainly be OK financially, in fact she'll probably do even better in whatever she moves into as a result of this, than she would have in her remaining days as a model.

Her main problem is that she is a cocaine addict with serious issues, in a relationship with a cocaine/heroin addict- that's far more of an influence on her future happiness,or lack of it, than anything the media could ever do.

Is there hypocrisy in the media appraoch to this? Yes, I guess there is, but it doesn't particularly trouble me in this instance because it is pale in comparison to the fact that, prior to this, Kate Moss has been given millions of , considerable social status and basically been in the position of someone the young generation look up to, and aspire to being like.

It's bad enough that the business she's been involved has been the inspiration for a generation of anorexics, the last thing we need is to popularise cocaine as well.

If, as many seem to be saying here, it's actually the norm amongst top models to be addicts, then maybe when it looks like they'll lose contracts because of it, the industry will start to clean itself up a bit.

Ah well actualy I hope this works out well for her, since I like kate moss. Because she is

A: Very pretty lol

B: Fabulouse (darling)

C: English (woo)

D: English and one of the (if not the) worlds top model

Kate actualy has a great singing voice, it was said by a journelist interviewd for a programm about Kate, that while at one of kates party she got up and baegan to sing, everyone looked at each other and though, oh god this is gonna be so crap and we cant say anything, but she turned out to have a fantastic voice. Ide love to see her go into the music buisness, wich after this she could easily do. Infact she can easily get more modeling work, so she mught have to have a small rest, but hell she can do it with her financial state.

the authors write as if they represent the moral majority and it simply stinks (like a big, fat, rotten, smelly metaphorical onion).

call me a pessimist dave but i think the likelihood of this debacle 'cleaning up' the fashion industry and moving it away from champagne and cocaine parties is almost non-existant.
having the right to carry out random drug tests as part of high-profile contracts might have a chance of doing that but i don't see chanel, burberry or even h&m suggesting that such a clause will be added to their next 'face's contract...

Like I said before though, it's not going to mess her up financially- she's a 'face', and there will always be stuff for her to do.

Coleman, i don't see why this can't lead to a 'cleaning up' of the fashion industry, if it becomes established that flaunting drug use=getting the sack, I imagine it could have an effect.

At the end of the day, why should supermodels be subject to different rules than the rest of us- if Joe Bloggs turns up at work to see pictures of him snorting coke on the front page of the newspaper, he's likely to get the sack.

I dislike the media as much as anyone here, I don't support witch hunts either- but there's several distinct issues, one of which being that someone who influences young people tremendously is addicted to cocaine and doesn't care who knows it.

Who's 'we'. The problem with statements like that is that it portrays cocaine use as normal. Cocaine use isn't normal.
