Posted:Hi guys!

I am a 25 year old Irish boy whos arriving in Australia in about 4 weeks and should be staying from 3 months to a year. I fly into Adelaide on the 9th of September for my mates birthday.

For the next 3 weeks I am on the look out for something/s to do in or within a day of Adelaide until common ground is on, on the 30th of September.

Im thinking about earthcore in Brisbane on the 25th 17th of November. What I do between Common ground and Earth Core I really dont know.

I have an interest in seeing as much of Australia as I can including but not exclusively WA, a kangaroo, Brisbane, festivals, gatherings, music, sustainable communities, drumming, juggling conventions the blue mountains.

Ive been told the east coast is horribly touristy though I am willing to make my own mind up about it and I expect looking forward to meeting some of you would make it a far more attractive prospect too.

All advise, invitations, plugs, warnings, abusive comments and hugs welcome

James smile

Edit to add Woodford Folk Festival (Dec 26-Jan 1) so I don't forget... cool

Well, the East Coast of Oz is about 5000 kms long, so it is still possible to find spots not overrun with McD's and British backpackers! ubblol

If you've got the $$$$ advise you to get a campervan or station wagon.. There is a huge market in 'traveller cars', they can be very cheap and certainly help you get off any tourist tracks you might inadvertently stray into...
Happy travels! if you are thinking of going seriously inland, do find out what you're doign though.. water, floods, breakdowns etc... it's pretty serious out there, even on 'main' roads.... (sez me the Brissy girl living in paradise!)
If you are lucky you might hit the widlflower blossoming in WA.. happens after (rare) rains... I've only seen photos but it is something I really want to see... for real...

well, here's a few things you could do in the brisvegas area til earthcore...

moonfest! biggrin moonfest is sunday 18 september (oh, you'll still be in ademalaide...apparently there's friday night fire meets!), or monday 17 october, or wednesday 16 november or friday 16 december!! biggrin

umm...geez, i've only been away from brisbane for 8 months & i'm already forgetting everything!!

there's lots of different markets on weekends...ooh juggle jam is at southbank on monday nights!

hope that helps a lil...if you want to see some teeny lil rural towns in queensland you can come visit me!! biggrin there's not much here...but there's plenty of open tree-free fire-safe-ish (depending on rain...or lack thereof!) spaces!! ubblol

do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and good to eat!

if at first you do succeed, try not to look too astonished!

Posted:Why don't you come to Alice Springs? We've got lots of wildlife, a big rock and endless sunshine. It's only $120 on the train, you get a free pick up from me and a six pack if you can show me a new trick with staff or poi. beerchug (that's not hard, really).

By the way, you can buy a train ticket which is valid for six months hop on hop off as much as you like. It's about $450. But it will get you to Perth, Darwin, Alice, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.

If you intend to stay in Backpackers (it's so much fun) on the way I'd say buy a VIP card (unless you have a ISIC) that gives you lots of discounts on tours, accommodation, train and bus tickets.

Well, hope to see you in the near future.

P.S. hug when you get here.

Posted:a decentish drive is from adelaide up through 'the back way' north, to port augusta. lots of small country towns to see heritage and stuff at.

Port augusta has a big tourist information thing about the outback and stuff. interesting, if you like that sorta stuff.

The arid lands botanic gardens, also in port augusta, is another place a day could be spent, or so they tell me. Having grown up around the plants near there, all i see is scrub, but not growing up around here, you might get something out of it.

If you come that far (about 3.5 hours), you could always go another 45 minutes to whyalla. There's a big steelworks here, that they do guided tours of. its pretty impressive, the sheer scale of things. if desired, i could put you up for a night or two, methinks, should you wish to.

- The Victoria Earthcore is on the 25th of November. (About 10 minutes away from where I live)

- The Folk Rhythm & Life Festival is on 2nd of Dec. (About 50 mins)

That's about all I know!
