Hi all. First post here, so bear with me, and apologies if this has been covered already...

My sister does staff, her friends do poi, but I'd quite like to learn some sword-moves. Is there a resource somewhere that has "Free Lessons", like at this fantastic site? Would love to learn some stuff.

(Someone on here posted a thread about "Glow Swords", similar to Star Wars lightsabers really, saying how they'd look great when twirled about. Well I've got lightsaber replicas, (make sounds and everything), and twirling them about in the dark would look fantastic!!)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim.

Yo smile

Welcome to HoP biggrin

Before posting, you should really always run a search (up top between "Main Index" and "My Home" as these boards have been here years and there's a lot of info on here if you look for it smile

You get results like [Old link] and you're welcome to "bump" one of these up after you've had a read through.

It's a bit of a lengthy process, but it keeps these boards clean, helpful and organised smile

Happy searching! wink

Thanks Durbs. I did try some searches, and found a lot of the results in that Search Result you linked for me, but most of the threads talk about either,

a) How to make stuff, or
b) Links to martial arts sights with videos, or
c) Questions from others like me.

I guess we're quite spoiled at HoP with the lessons pages, containing excellent slow motion animations. I'll hunt down anything I can find like this for Swords.

Thanks again,
Tim.

Hi, Adrena1in!

(sorry for my bad english)
I sure that You know it, but if no...
Perhaps, it will be interesting for you, that a lot of Poi movements looks the same as sword movements... The weave can be done with the two swords, for example...
May be you can adaptate information...
Don't You?

Yours,
Bekar. I works with swords for 5 years...

Four words:

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. lol.

Look at kung fu styles for broad swords, tai chi swords and stuff like that.

The kung fu styles are almost always the most flashy by far, and will translate the best into fire or glow toys.

If you look at the chain whip threads there are links to websites that have mpeg demenstrations or all sorts of chinese weapons.

Hey, newbie here. First post, yay!

I'm wondering if anyone here has developed anything new in swordplay since the last post.

I'm really interested in any ideas/examples of good sequences so that there's a good flow in the movement of the flame itself. I find that really important, because it's such a large flame, and it can get a little messy/unclear if the sequences don't match up.

Also, what do people prefer in terms of straight vs. curved, and single vs. double?

Thanks!

I'm interested in this too. Though I'd like to also see some technical discussion on it, like what people like in their fire swords.
