Ever spent MONTHS perfecting some difficult nitty-gritty technical move only to find that nobody even noticed it and instead everyone loves it when you just throw a staff in the air and catch it again??? biggrin biggrin

So for any of your toys:

Personally, I think steel wool poi has to be the ultimate cheap trick. Colored poi is a not-too-distant second.

turn round when you spin, do lots of turns, don't give people the chance to work out what your doing.

oh, yeah and shake that ass!

The Ultimate Juggling cheap trick is this.

You know when you are doing just a three ball cascade then you throw the balls in a two on the outside, one in the middle thing. "pillars?"

like this

O O <----- up and down at the same time

, O <----- up and down on opposite beat to the other two (sorry about Ascii)

Well. What you do is you grab the ball on the far left with your left hand. Juggle the middle and right ball with one hand and just raise and lower the left hand.

If you get what i mean then you understand. Its just so cheezy

I really suck at describing things

Theres always the classic butterfly -> knees -> lay backwards. Really common cheap trick.

Let's turn those old bridges we crossed into ashes.
We'll blaze a new trail,
and torch the rough patches.

I'll avoid it until I've had a bit more practice thanks, I find that buzzsaws are sysnonomous with unplanned castrations.

So with that in mind, I'll start with something easy first... like an eggwhisk

ie. the old fashioned manual ones:

Weave flower into buzzsaw?? now why didn't I think of that. I've been doing it the other way,, buzzsaw into weave flower, now I'll combine the two and a new combo is born.

But my all time favourite cheap trick has got to be kicking the poi

*sigh* tis true tis true, i earned £18 while waiting for a bus at 11:30 at night just doing fountains

mind you, really really techy stuff generally looks crappy, it may be hard to do, but look good and flow well it does not watch Dervishly Yers, great example of nontechy stuff looking amazing, also Yuta's first vid, again, nothing really more techy than antispin flowers (cant believe i jsut said that) but it the control and timing and the movment within the circles that make it beautiful, not just standing there spinning.

Remember all the audience really sees are floaty balls of light, they dont look, nor think about what your hands are doing, or how twisted your arms are, all they are bothered about is the prety lights making patterns.

the way i think about it is people dont look at fireworks and go "Ooooh " they go "Oooh light and bang!!" and even more when its "Oooh light and bang in a pretty pattern"

surely to spin faster on a pattern is harder?
surely more speed nesssecitates more control to execute the trick properly,
'i havespent as long learning how to catch high fast spinning throws on singles at night as i have done on rhd's 3 staff flat shower.
i
i think people gety very stuck up about other peoples styles i think the faster, the slower the smoother, the sporadic the better..........its all good in my view.as long as its fun
as for the crowd, try and judge them less for once we all had that first time WOW fire spinning is cool to watch experience and cared little for technical wizardry.
my favourite shows combine both technical and crowd pleasing tricks
