Hey there,

My name is Daniel, I'm 19, and I live in Houston Tx. I got in to poi dancing around the beginnning of June for a summer show at my school-- My director wanted to have firedancers in our tribute to 1930's sideshows called "Karnival," so my partner and I had about 4 weeks to learn how to use poi. Of course, we mainly got all the information off this site's "free lessons." It was the "free" that had me from the start.
So after a lot of threats from our director to put us on glowsticks if we weren't up to par, we finally got the hang of it and did our fairly simple routine (nothing more comlicated than the butterfly and reverse weave).

I've bee practicing since then and I just learned a new trick--that butterfly weave thing with my left hand going backwards, and my right going forwards.

I intend to keep learning all the new stuff, I even have another small performance to do in front of a bunch of drunk people at my director's friend's theatre.

Do you know about the houston area fire spinners list? I'll PM you the info just in case. Our regular monthly get together is this coming Friday.

Yeah go ahead and get me that list! I was sure there were a lot of spinners in houston, but i guess they tend not to show themselves in daylight, or take on alter egos like upstanding citizens biggrin
