Hello!

I'm Lynne, 26, in the Midlands. Been learning poi for about 5 weeks. I can do backwards and forwards weave, and butterfly and reverse butterfly as well as possibly other thing si don't know names for..

I can't do shoulder or hip reels to save my life, but i'm trying!

Other stuff? Job hunting, student (psychology degree), reading, being boring biggrin

Lynne

[edit to say i dragged this up so i can keep a kind of poi diary. Rather than boring non-poi people to tears, i can bore poi ppl to tears ubbangel]

hello, i am from cov and go to uni in notts. Where abouts near cov is it and where do you usually go out? I would always be more than happy to help you out with any poi moves if i'm able.

I always try to get to the 'fields of fire' when i can as i live just over the road from it. hello chris!( i borrowed ur glow sticks at firefly a couple of months ago and live with rosa who last time i heard goes out with andy)- so there is another poi person in cov that you sorta know.

Duballstar, i don't know Rob or Adam frown I looked up the notts meet, cos it's only an hour on the train, but i believe you're about 3 miles away from the train station, so hard to get to.. frown

Where's fields of fire? Notts?

I live in Nuneaton, for my sins. I go down to the juggling club there, but being the best (and usually only) spinner there does nothing to improve my technique! I'm thinking of going to the cov club on a Tuesday, because i have a friend who spins there and there are some others also i believe.

Unfortunately, from a week's time i'll pretty much be away for 3 weeks, so can't do anything until i get back.

On the up side, two of those weeks will be spent in Aus biggrin

there's rumours of a big midlands poi meet in october (started by me) so keep your ears peeled...

you basically get on the tram and dont get off until you get to the forest fields stop then walk down into the field in the direction of the bunch of people doing poi. There is usually people there from around 6pm or so every thursday. If you want to have people teach you a few things its usually best to get there while its light. This is the web site if you want to have a closer look https://www.fieldsoffire.uni.cc/
. I suppose duballstar can tell you more about it than me though.

The cov club is in the old artspace? On spon street. If you look in the meet ups section, Dott has posted a thing about it smile

all of the trams go to forest fields and they run virtually every 5 minutes. It takes less than 10 mins to get from the station to the fields.

I will have a look at the cov thing- would be nice to have something while i am at home!

Thanks lemming biggrin

I have a packet of those (although their numbers are sandly denuded atm), except mine are not an *indulgence* pack - most swish!

So are they the same in NZ as in Aus? And is there anywhere you can buy them in UK without spending a fortune? smile

I'm resurrecting my thread to be a poi diary, because i notice that non-poi people's eyes start glazing over, and that's when I'm only talking about weaves. Anything else and they're catatonic.

Hmm, maybe i should market myself as a cure for insomnia biggrin

Start back today for registration, but lectures don't start til next week. It's a hard life! Third year, so in 9 months time I'll be out in "the real world" (when actually o work anyway, to afford to go to uni, so I'll have extra time on my hands).

I love that name - Sir sheep... How did you come by it?

It's a long, and ultimately boring story. Maybe one day I'll explain it to you.

I'm looking at applying for Warwick/Coventry uni presently, for starting next year. Warwick is my first choice atm, but Coventry has more courses which sound like fun.

So I'm worried..

If my legs ended at the thighs I'd be fine. As it is, they're going to be pretty tomorrow biggrin Taught a couple of people the backwards weave. I love my friend.. The same one who learnt forwards 3bt in 3 minutes learnt backwards 3bt in *2* tonight! I taught another girl too, and then got them both turning from back to front without problem. Hello smile

I'm great now biggrin I spent the night at a friend's housewarming, and then the rest of today recovering at hers before stumbling home. I had a lovely time. And i made her gothic poi as a housewarming pressie, which was appreciated!

Things with the neighbour are getting worse, the police are now involved but as yet they won't DO anything - "We can't do anything until he threatens you, but when he does, ring 999" Gee, thanks for that.

Anyhow..I'd poi, but i ache all over, and i think I'm getting a cold *pout*

How are you doing? And are you going to the shpercularHoPPiP sheffield meet? smile

Meep hun if the neighbours are making a lot of noise you can report them to your local councils Enviromental health dept.

I wouldn't take this route until you have tried talking to them first, but if thats already been done or isn't really an option because of fear of violence, you can report them. Noise pollution is taken seriously now by most councils.

It may take some time to take effect as the wheels of councils grind very slowly. You have to weigh up the nuisance factor against the undoubted risk of antagonising the neighbours whilst you wait for the council to sort it out. If more than one person complains it may speed things up. So if they are pissing off other neighbours too rope them into the complaint.

Cheers Skull, i know... The problem is, if i report him to env health, they send him a letter saying someone's complained. It doesn't take too many brains to work out who. And i'd guess he has just enough.

Apparently it's against the human rights act for me to record *him* in MY flat. What i want to know is just who is invading who's privacy here?

Meh

Still, I'm not going to be here much for the next 3 days, so i don't care so much. And this weekend I'll be at work a lot too smile

biggrin I spent another night at juggling club getting "teach me how to do that spinny thing?" so i did. I also taught a group of 4 girls how to do the 3bt, as for two weeks they've been in their little group with a sock each. They could all do it after 20 minutes, so satisfied Lynne/

Taught someone backwards 3bt, someone else forwards, and someone else butterflies.

the girl i taught forwards weave begged her mum for a pair of poi and her mum asked if I'd make her some of my cone poi, for money eek So i am.

And now i want to kill my neighbour. He's playing what SOUNDS like Beverly Craven's "promise me" as done by the smurfs on acid, LOUDLY, and it's 11pm.

He'll get his. censored

I did get to go to the Durham juggling convention this weekend (as it was held about 5mins from my house!). That was good fun, but I won't be able to make it down south at all whilst I'm here. (Yup, I count Sheffield as south for me).
