Technora® or Kevlar®?
We have been playing with Technora® over the years, trying different weaves of rope to get the best feel, flexibility, and ease of use. We are very grateful to all those in the community that gave us feedback to help come up with a fantastic product. What is Technora®?
It is a para-aramid fiber that is- Eight times stronger than steel!
- able to withstand up to 930°F (499°C)
- lovely and soft to the touch
- high abrasion resistance
- very flexible
So what? I have Kevlar®?
Technora® is far better than Kevlar® when used as a cord (not a wick). It is ideal to use as a flame-resistant cord, instead of nylon, metal chains or other ropes that can heat up and possibly burn you.
You can hold a flame to it, and it will not burn or heat up!
Can I use Technora® to make a wick for a Fire Prop?
Not recommended as the Kevlar® wick we sell is mixed with other aramids making it much cheaper to buy, and it gives more fuel soakage for longer burns.OK, so I can use it as a cord?
Yes, as you can see above, we have already attached to some Rope Darts. The wicks are still Kevlar®, and the cord is Technora® with which you will hold and feed through your hand.
What? Can I still see a metal chain being used?
The chain above is there to give some distance between soaking the Kevlar® wick in your fuel container and keeping the fuel away from the Technora® cord.Otherwise, the fuel on the cord will catch on fire and will still burn you! Before you get to the end of the Technora®, you will first feel the splice, a thickening of the cord where it is fed inside of itself to make a loop for the quick link to attach, reminding you not to go further to the metal.
Stay tuned; we are continuing to update other products to the Technora® cords.
