Flag Poi

Flag Poi is a pair of Poi that have a large trailing piece of fabric similar to a flag. The big-block area of color gives this Poi a substantial visual impact. Ideal for when your audience is in a large arena or sitting far from the stage where you are performing.

Regular Flag Twirling compared to Flag Poi

Flag twirling uses a rectangular piece of material with weights added into parts of the leading and bottom edges so it is able to 'cut' through the air. There is no separate handle so you hold onto the leading top corner of the fabric. If you twirl/rotate in one direction for too long, the material will twist up the flag until it becomes a rolled up piece of fabric. This is why it is important to mix the direction of rotation so any twists get untwisted on the following swings.

Flag Poi does have a separate handle with a Swivel connecting it to the flag. This Swivel allows you to do any number of rotations in one direction without the fabric twisting or rolling up. We have also changed the shape of the flag at the bottom to match the rotating movement of the Flag Poi to create a circular block of color.

Best used inside or outside on a less windy day. They really can catch the wind and flap against you or the other Flag Poi.

About Veil and Scarf Poi

The trailing fabric is not weighted to open up fully and 'cut' through the air. They work more so like a twirling ribbon, so the fabric is dragged through the air following the weighted ball head. The material is either a silk or very lightweight fabric to help it stay in the leading path of the Poi. These, too, will be best used inside or on a calm day. Due to the lightweight nature of the fabric dragging on another surface, they will wear out, especially on something harsh like concrete.
