Start doing the Butterfly. When you are at the bottom of the Poi path stretch your arms out to the side, then bring them together and cross them above your head before lowering your hands to normal butterfly height.
If your Poi knock together when you are doing the butterfly check again that the bottom hand is slightly in front of the other.
If they still collide, check that both your palms are facing up towards the sky.
