Okay so I spend a while winding a cage, I stuffed the steel wool in, dipped it in kero and lit up. Expecting it to just go 'whooosh!'...I didn't at all... What went wrong with that?

.All things are beautiful if we take the time to look.

Alright.

Now, on a different note, I'm still trying to learn how to make a steel wool cage. Can someone help?

I mean, do I need to take the wick off my staff? Or can I leave it on? How do I attach the cage to my staff?

From a safety point of view, I would create a brand new staff, mucking about with attaching things to staffs is not only complicated, but far more likely to break or come off without arning...

Alright, will do. Thanks so much! grin

Just one last question old . When I go about making this new staff, it is my understanding that I will attach the cages with screws (in the same way one would attach a wick), instead of a wick. Is that it? Or am I missing something?

That is you to decide on at the end of the day. Personally. I would use at least two methods of securing one could be screws the other might be a wound strap tied into a groove. The weight and speed involved with wire wool means you must have a failsafe built into your design.
