wave Hi, I'm brand spanking new to HOP, never even new it existed until I stumbled upon it recently. Only just starting to get my sea legs as far as the technology thing goes. Just typed poi into a search engine and BAM, Here I am. And right glad I am too.

Been spinning for years on and off, started in South Africa and the enthusiasm kinda waned once I got to the UK and refused to leave the warmth of indoors for months. Years later I am regaining my passion and learnig to accept that 26 degrees celcius is warm.

Think Hop is amazing, looking forward to learning and living and loving and growing. biggrin

Mynci! Not the most sympathetic of souls are we!I had a dream with you in last night! We have booked to go and see the place where they hold Firegathering next week as a potential wedding reception venue for next year. I dreamt that we went and had a look and there were people already getting married there. Then you turned up but you were talking to someone and writing out lots of cheques to them. You werent happy, I think he was blackmailing you or something.

I'm really looking forward to it, theres so much to organise! We are pretty much going to be doing everything ourselves, even the food, so it's going to be busy going.

I've managed to get Ben to agree that if they are not related by blood and I havent met them, they are not important enough to come to the wedding, so at least I won't be surrounded by 300 strangers on my Wedding day! ( I very nearly was, he was being quite stubborn about it for a while there!). It does mean I have to cut down my side too, but more like 20 compared to Ben's 150! It does mean the only of my spinny friends that I can invite are you guys and Dave, so you guys will have to be my HOP representation! laugh3

I want to get some festival style flags for the camping field, and I noticed you guys had some for southern lights...could you possibly please point me in the right direction? grin

Home made my dear wink

We had some scaffolding poles cut to about 3ft with plastic caps which were hammered into the ground

holes cut in the caps to make a tight fit for 12 ft bamboo poles (about 1 inch diametre poles)

L shaped peice of wire at the top that sat in the bamboo and the flag hung off these with eyelets in the cloth to cable tie the sides to the pole.
All done by Carol our festival artist (simons ex)

we used:
12 x 3ft scaffolding poles with plastic caps
12 x 10ft bamboo poles (1 inch Diameter)
12 x peices of wire 3ft long with a right angle bend about 2ft up
12 x peices of cloth with artwork on (looped at the top to fit on wire)
36 x eyelets for the flags
shed load of cable ties

You could always just use road pins and cable ties instead of the scaffolding poles maybe -
feel free to contact her on exactly what she did her name is Carol Childs she has a website here's a link to her contact page:

https://www.carolchilds.com/contact.asp

she's lovely so may be able to help you,

Thank you! We are all good on that front, we are trying to do most of it ourselves to save money. I'm just looking for someone with flags I can hire as I'm only going to use them this once... though I need pink purple and blue ones really to match our theme grin hug

hug Thanks, keep a look out for people with pastel coloured flags grin... if I can't find any I may just have to see if I can hire those ones, it's not the end of the world if they don't match...but it would be a nice touch I think. I've been trying on dresses and my head is spinning...theres so much to do! bounce2

Oh yes, heres something you may be able to help with... I want to hire a living statue and some sort of stilt walking creature for directly after the ceremony.I'm going to enlist the help of some friends for some other characters, but none of them fit the bill for statue or stilt walker. You know of anyone in the surrey area who would do either/both reasonably cheaply? Would only be for an hour or less.

I'll find out about the above. I do know plenty of stilt walkers Simon has oggle but that's not a very weddingy stilt monster more a dominatrix pet. Statues I'm not great on - too close to mime lol.

What kind of stilt walker are you after? I have stilts but no costume to go with them unfortunately. will be loads of stilt walkers on here, try a post in the help section you may even find someone else you know *hug*

I'm not really sure, I've just got loads of ideas at the moment, so nothing is set in stone apart from the date! I thought I had most of it decided, then I saw something else, and now I've changed my mind, so everything has to change. This is hard work!

I was thinking of having a few people dressed in fantasy costumes just wonder around the outskirts of the crowd while people are having pre-dinner drinks and then disappear again. Kind of a few minutes of 'seen but not heard' fantasy creatures... thinking I'm just going to rope a few guests into 5 minutes of running around in a funny costume... but sssssh, it's a secret.

Update on my birthday this year Mynci, if you guys can make it. Having it on saturday 18 December this year. Kind of wanting to do some stuff in the day, like go for a meal/drinks followed by party at my house after with disney themed fancy dress. Hope you guys can make it!

hug

I don't think we'll be able to make your birthday this year hun what with marie due to drop on 26th I don't think I want to be more than 20 minutes away from her for the last 2 weeks and I doubt she'd be fit for travel what with already being a bit turtle like. I don't think I'd be forgiven missing the birth of my first born *dramatic and slightly spooky music*

So funny watching her trying to get out of bed laugh3 it's like seeing a tortoise on it's back wink

You never know though, if she drops early I still may be able to come wink

It should all be fine, thanks for the offer though tongue2

The whole wedding thing is making me a bit panicky though, the last I checked it was a year till our wedding, now it's only 8 months! Plus theres my birthday, christmas and new years to deal with (which means we only have 7.5 months to think about it really) Then ofcoarse theres Bens birthday and our Pre- honeymoon in April (which means that we only have 7 months to thinbk about it really), oh yes and then theres summer when we are always super busy being the social butterflies that we are (which means that we only have 3 months to think about it really). And I wanted to have everything sorted at least 3 months in advance so that I could relax and focus on looking as radient as possible...so I'm defenitly running behind. I have a venue and a dress and everything else is in my head. argh. shocked eek
