Mmmkay so as a lot of you are aware, I've been making ridiculous, useless, inapplicable posts for weeks now, my lazy butt is finally getting around to doing this...

Name: Brendan

Location: Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States

Hometown: West Warren, Massachusetts

Birthday (sign?): 9/19/82

Age: 27

Sex: M

Occupation(s): Glassworker

Favorite Food(s): Indian food, authentic Mexican cuisine, American barbecue

Favorite Color(s): Pine green, black, teal, sea green, caramel

What is the wing speed of an unladen swallow? The sad thing is I know exactly the reply question tongue2

Toys: poi, just poi, someday it will be fire, but until then...

Hobbies other than the obvious: Glassworking, cooking, hiking and camping, bouldering, tats and body mods, bicycles

Education: Catholic school education FTW! ;P

Favorite Book(s): Battle Royale, The Joy of Cooking, Slaughterhouse 5, Indian Home Cooking

Favorite Movie(s): Zombieland, Watchmen, Boondock Saints (haven't seen the second one yet...)

Godzilla vs. a Star Wars Star Destroyer. Who wins? Why? Neither, Space Marine Battle Barge. They'd shoot Godzilla from orbit while simultaneously boarding the Destroyer and taking it over. Enough Space Marines are capable of destroying any other science fiction's claim to win. Sorry, it's true. tongue2

Favorite TV show(s): Family Guy, Metalocalypse, Good Eats, The Office

Plans for life in general: (i.e. what you want to do when you grow up) Keep expanding my glassworking operation and try and make it more lucrative. Travel a lot, especially globally, go to Spain, eat Indian curries in India.

Favorite Music Artists/Composers: Currently liking Gogol Bordello, Finntroll, King Diamond, Dethklok, MC Chris, Dropkick Murphys

Do you think these pants make my butt look too big? Yes. I advise a kilt. Everybody looks better in a kilt!

Favorie ice cream flavor(s): Raspberry sherbet is pure win, but I'd rather have some coffee, it's too cold now!

Marmite, Vegemite, or Nutella: Nutella, that's the only one of the three I've ever seen in stores and tried. It is pure awesomeness though! What are the other two like?

Oh and for any of you wondering what's in my hand next to that big smile of mine, it's a fat toad I found while making a garden earlier last year.

Though I imagine that of all the races, the Eldar would probably be the best at poi, being elves basically. They are very graceful and far superior costumes. Orks would put heads on rusty chains, Tau would have more advanced poi that flew around on their own. Tyranid poi would be living creatures. Imperial Guardsmen would be using the same kind of poi they were using 10,000 years ago. However Space Marines are able to do any poi trick on a dice roll of three or more.

A giant god of fire doing fire poi - or even better - contact staff with the spear - that would be win - alhtough the big headress thing would be kind of difficult to deal with, as would a hand perpetually dripping with blood.

But yeah, they're a god so they win!

Not unless you're Marneus Calgar! =D I swear that at one time the Eldar had a weapon that were basically poi. Like these wailing crystal skulls on chains or something like that. I'll have to check out the 40k wiki. I'm almost certain. It would be cool to have a Harlequin outfit, but then people would expect you to do triple backflips in the air on cue while swinging two swords at the same time.

Under the fancy hardware, the Eldar are basically a futuristic sci fi version of elves simply put. They are elegant, graceful, skilled, and extremely pretentious and arrogant. I can certainly relate to those last two traits!! tongue2

Sisters would swing poi and convert or kill anybody who didn't think poi was the absolute highest form of expression, ever. They'd get all religious about it too!

It's all part of a game we're blabbing about that is pure nerd-gasm material. It's a storyline universe that has been going on for three decades now and is pretty deep, at least as much as Star Wars or Star Trek or Harry Potter. It's not really a role playing game like Dungeons and Dragons or WoW. There's computer versions of the game called Dawn of War and the (older) table top version called Warhammer 40,000. It's a fun, silly game that most guys like to obsess over while most girls are just like "WTF?, whatever!" It's geeky, but fun and as you can see it allows people to have humorous conversations that only a few will get!

It's also very dark and gothic. In a universe of monsters, the most innocent and straight forward race is, imo, the orks or maybe the imperial guard when they aren't being killed off by their officers. Namely 'cause if Orks say they want to tear your head off and put it on a stick. That is the worst that will happen to you after they kill you and Guardsmen are plain humans -_-

Other things.... you'd be less lucky

Yeah, my husband knows about this stuff, but of course I'm clueless. I'm just kind of lame and ironic (don't fit the nerd profile at all), more like a hipster who doesn't take themselves too seriously!LOL
I don't know how you guys find the time for these games, they have taken the lives of many ex-friends of mine. The friendships didn't stop because of RPGs and what not, but more because they became absent as friends. As long as you're having fun and still being a productive member of society with no social repercussions then rock on!

Personally, my chief interest is in the background and lore they've built up. I've never had the money or the opportunity to play the table top version.

Do play Dawn of War with other geeky/nerdy friends of mine though... strategy game multiplayer is always extremely interesting tongue2

Well in the new Space Marine book for the tabletop version their's a bit of fiction where a hero Marine beats up an Avatar with his fists and saved the day in a very over the top fashion that caused some nerd rage in the gaming community, and is really quite funny to hear people get so upset over it. But this is Teh Interwebz!!1!1! and things are never as bad as the whiners make it out to be! tongue2

It's been a loooong time since I've had the time to game. I just don't have the time anymore and probably won't for years to come. Actually poi is one of the hobbies that kind of took over when I stopped gaming. There's a lot of other thing's I'd rather be doing right now! It's still fun to read about, but as far as gaming goes I've given up for the time being. It can be a very expensive hobby!

All the Primarchs were pretty bad ass, except that whiney, needy Perturabo. People kind of expect their stories to be OTT. I liked the story of Ferrus Manus the best. He seemed like a real good guy who traveled his planet and tried to help people out. That and he killed a dragon (C'tan) by drowning it in freakin' lava, that's priceless! tongue2

And the epic duel between Sanguinius and the daemon Bloodthirster was memorable.

They're getting a new army book in April May-ish and a whole bunch of new minis.
I'm already selling a bunch of stuff on E-Bay because I need the money- a Space Marines army, A Chaos Marines army, a Daemons army and a whole bunch of other stuff. Hell I'm getting rid of some of this stuff so I can afford a set of fire poi and some wicks, not to mention some camping gear for springtime, and tattoos/piercings! Like I said, I've got other free time priorities and 0 time for gaming. However I refuse to give up my Orks or Death Korps armies. I don't care, I spent a lot of time on those and refuse to give those up until the very end. At the very least, years down the road there might be a li'lfire413 that I can spend time gaming with!
