Extremely new n00b here. And a very clutzy poi spinner.

Let's see here...

Name: Chris

Location: Tennessee (the radioactive part of the state)

Hometown: Somewhere between Nashville and Knoxville

Birthday (sign?): Libra

Age: Never ask a mature woman her age.

Sex: Female

Occupation(s): Graphic Designer

Favorite Food(s): sushi

Favorite Color(s): black, purple, blue

What is the wing speed of an unladen swallow? Huh?

Toys: Poi, and my computer

Hobbies other than the obvious: drawing, painting, urban fantasy writing, rock violin playing

Education: college

Godzilla vs. a Star Wars Star Destroyer. Who wins? Why? Depends on which Godzilla we're talking about here. Now the Dark God Gojira from Gojira, Mosura, King Ghidorah Daikaiju Soukugeki could probably blast the Star Destroyer to bits, if he managed to get inside. I mean, he's basically a bunch of very angry American and Japanese souls put together, the giant, metallic wedge of cheese isn't going to take him down very easily.

You're talking to a G-Fan here. God, I'm such a geek.

Plans for life in general: (i.e. what you want to do when you grow up) I wanna be a fire truck!

Favorite Music Artists/Composers: Anything from John Williams, Godsmack, Metallica, Alice in Chains, E Nomine, Nightwish...and yeah, I can spin to John William's Imperial March. It's strange, but...eh. Give me Mozart and I could spin to it too.

So, um...yeah, clutzy spinner, but enjoying it. Uh, hi? Any room for a geek spinner here?

Oh, and for some strange reason, my left hand is a complete idiot because I can't do split time opposites. My left hand wants to do what the right hand is doing except for when I'm playing the violin. Then, it can think for itself.

THanx. What about the idiot left hand who can't think for himself when doing split time opposites? Seriously, it is a very stupid hand. I think my left hand is retarded or something.

Has it tried counselling?

Maybe it just feels insecure compared to your right, just give it more attention, make it feel special.

I'm thinking about doing that. My right can do all the turns and such. One of the reasons why I have hard time doing the 2-beat weave is because my right is the one who initiates the weave and I can't go back around because my left won't attempt to initiate the second beat.

I think it needs counciling or I need to just spin with one poi in my left to strengthen it more. Maybe if I have it do its own thing by itself it'll do stuff correctly when performing. Though it's strange, it always wants to be the top hand when I do butterflies. I try going in with my right and I get tangled. I go in with my left and it looks good.

I'm a clutz!

Welcome!
Try to loosen up your left hand before spinning. Practicing with it more than your right should help too.

Welcome! Nice taste in music. wink

With the left hand, your right can probably go on auto-pilot now, so forget about it and focus on what your left does.

Thanx, I'll do it. Yeah, the right can go on autopilot. It does everything on its own.

Oh, I got the weirdest taste in music. Anyone spin to J-pop before? Last night we had some swing music with big brass and everything and I was spinning to that too.

Bwahaha!

J-Pop is funny to start with. Ever tried various musicals? Theme song of Sound of Music is... special?

Swing and big band jazz is awesome.

LOL! I should try spinning to the Sound of Music.

"The hills are alive with the sound of...the poi smacking me in the head!"

LOL! That would be funny.

I'm a violinist, so, beat and music comes naturally to me.

Thank you. You should see my electric fiddle (violin). People tell me it looks like a space-aged crossbow.

But at last, someone appreciates my odd tastes in music. If you're ever in the neighborhood, try coming to one of our festivals where my step-dad's R&B and Carolina Beach music band plays the nights and try swinging poi to Sammy Davis songs. I'm gonna try. He does a good Mustang Sally.
