You mentioned Spirited Away, what are your feelings on My Neighbor Totoro? BECAUSE I LOVE IT.
Also, I'm with you on Good Eats, though it's not just Alton Brown, I'm a bit of a Food Network junkie.
Anyway, welcome!

Thanks for the welcome guys! Katie, I'm more or less an all-round Miyazaki fan; I'd watch any of his films any day. I think I just give Spirited Away special treatment because it's the only one I got to see as a theatrical release (I did see Mononoke in a student theater once, but it just isn't the same). I don't have time to be a Food Network junkie (or Anything Network, for that matter), so I just stick to Good Eats; there are enough back episodes of that that there's no fear of it ever getting old. biggrin

Nikki, I'm right-handed today, because I sliced my left hand open and it really isn't happy with me! eek

You wouldn't happen to be involved with the SCA in that area or part of the group going to Jim Thorpe Midsummer RF would you?

Juuuuuuuuuust curious smile

No, actually I'm not! I was briefly a stagefighter for the Medieval Faire when I was living in Gainesville, FL, but not up this way! To be honest I've never been a great attendee of Faires... I used to practice historical European martial arts, so the SCA's style of combat didn't really appeal to me. I did live in Lehighton, right next to Jim Thorpe, for a little while though! You're familiar with the area?

A little bit. Friends of mine run Jim Thorpe and a relatively new fire troupe will be there again this year.
Another friend, a leatherworker, is from just outside Allentown and last year I did PARF, not far from Hershey.
I might be down that way teaching workshops in June. We were thinking of doing the JT Ren but gas prices are making us tighten how many small rens we can do, because they are less money (sadly as we enjoy doing them more).

I also am in Wilkes-Barre every November for a "gathering" of sideshow peeps.

Huh, guess I do more in Pa than I thought! biggrin

I'm not fond of alot about the SCA, their combat style being one. I do have lots of friends who are and my performance partner, so I s'pose I can't diss it too much. Just not for me. wink

Yeah I used to hang out with a lot of SCA-types, I haven't got anything against them, just not my cuppa tea.

I've been to the PA Renn Faire a couple times - I actually fenced there once. Is that fire troupe you speak of from PA or just visiting? Do you know Barrett Ravenhurst from the Jim Thorpe Emporium?

I don't know anything about the fire troupe at Jim Thorpe, though I think they might be local since the show doesn't have the budget to import. Their called Kaji-Da, I believe. A google should pull them up.

I don't know any Sca-dian names, just their real names. I met them at a different Ren we did in PA where we all camped together.

I've heard of Kaji-Da, I think they are from PA. I'll have to look them up later!

Oh, and Barrett is his real name (but then my first thought when I met him was that with a name like that you're destined to hang out with medievalists!)
