Is it too early to make a new staff goals thread? Well maybe, but I'm going to press on regardless...

So goals for 2008 please! Itemised if ya wants... I like itemisation.

1) Get rid of job, travel world spinning staff. biggrin
2) make super tech duo doubles routine.
3) Now that my knee is better, get back to the acrobatics + staff.
4) Now that my knee is better, learn better movement, and how it works with staff. (Post-wiggling proto-dance)
5) Find some outrageous contact moves to learn, that I haven't thought of yet and learn them. (I couldn't have imagined myself doing a head roll steve at this time last year.)
6) Perform better.
7) Go to circus school, or devote 2/3 months entirely to training. (Whichever comes first)
8) Don't let my knee get injured again.
9) Find some more illusions, or visit Simian.
10) Make those two new routines I've been thinking about.

I reserve the right to change these goals in january... tongue You can also reserve your right.

Can't wait for Chrimborg P.R.E.S.S.I.E.S!

Yeah, I'll add some...

...but not many.

1) Make three sticks (or get someone else to make them for me ubbangel ) 1 x 4' and 2 x 3'.

2) Use above sticks more.

3) Solidify the matrix.

4) learn lots of geometric, antispinny, isolatey doubles.

5) Foot fishtails, and make them look good.

Non-staff goals, but will help me out with stick:

1) Stretch at least four times a week, especially my legs and shoulders.

2) Learn some form of acrobatics, even if just some basic things like cartwheels.

3) Be able to hold both legs (but not at the same time) above waist height.

4) Get some weights, and build up my leg muscles again.

5) Improve balance and posture

right:

1) caged contact
2) continue trying to build up basic moves with style, rather than geeking out and trying to slap style in later
3) more doubles patterns with staight sides (explore squares and triangles more then head for hexagons)
4) get better at contact
5)learn how to do doubles contact without pausing mid flow
6)more cheese!
7)go to capoiera or yoga lessons, or preferably both (yeah right like I'm going to have time for that...)
8)improve footwork
9) practise throws

10) [disclaimer: in the event that i should manage to get through all the above] get started on 3 sticks

Okay, 1 month in... And I don't know if I'll be changing these goals... but this is an update to say what I'm doing about achieving these goals...

so:

1) yeah, this one is on track. wink

2) this one too... thou it's gonna be hard work. I might have to make the routine using video...

3) not yet... I have to train up the other knee and be careful with the 'better' one. Always making sure my knee aligns correctly, and keeping on building the muscles to stabilize it.

4) Yeah, I think the way with this is to constantly be thinking about your movement, and trying to be more graceful all the time, even during hardcore drilling of moves. So I'm going to try and do that.

5) have a few more moves, but none of them sufficiently outrageous yet... I need one that'll take at least 3 months to learn, never mind polish, and that's going to be worth it. (I don't think the anti-spin matrix is quite worth it. Or the vertical one.)

6) Well can only learn by doing I guess... This is the one that scares me most. Hopefully the two routines I have to make, and the duo doubles routine will add some more confidence and calmest to my stage 'presence' and add new facets to it too.

7) I think this is sorted. But it's still a bit up in the air.

8) er... well, working on it. I did get nasty shin splints. But They're almost gone now. And it's not patella tendinitis so all is good. But I do think I'll get it in my other knee if I don't work hard on it.

9) Not yet.
10) big not yet.

Any changes I'd make after the SJC?

Well I'm not so concerned with acrobatics and staff anymore, I'd still like them, but I don't want to sacrifice my knees to do it. If I can get my knees sorted, I'm sure it'll come in time.

Instead I'd like to really concentrate on movement aspects and changing the height of my body.

And I might put learning club manipulation in there. Thanks to sam.

Well, the weather has been crap enough to keep me from having the kind of practice I'd like, but I have managed to figure out a few of reverse fishtails with my left hand and one or two with the right hand. Forward fishies are much trickier, Im finding. So....if it stops raining for a bit, Ill be able to get out and nail these things to knock them off my list of goals.

Same goes for steves and snes. Still cant do a single jesus roll though...

So... I started about a week ago. I figure this is a good way to hold myself accountable.

1. Get comfortable with the staff.

2. Practice a minimum of an hour a day 4 days a week.

3. Learn basic spins and contact... with good foot work.

4. Develop a style, so I am doing more than putting tricks next to each other (Didn't realize until it was too late that that is what I had done with poi... by which time I had gotten bored with it).

5. Find some people in LA to spin with.

6. Spin fire on the beach this summer.

7. Be able to do a 3 minute routine by June. 40% Spins, 30% Contact, 15% Throws, 15% Wraps.

8. Learn The Matrix and 3 variations.

9. Learn The Steve and 3 variations.

10. Build a fire staff (so I can put down the broom handle and towels I am using now).

 Written by : Pogo69

3) learn more antispin doubles stuff

check!! thanks, again dave... hug continuing to learn more and more... linking more too... antispin and isolations... do need to do more work here, though...

4) nail reverse flowers and put more work into antispin flowers

ye, reverse flowers all good... forwards totally smooth... mixed (one reverse, one forwards) all good... moving between each, and opposite direction flowers in front plane getting better too...

 Written by : Pogo69

5) continue exploring and expanding on the simple things, like one beat variations, btb etc

ye, I have started on this... linking into parallel btb... then switching to whatever the same thing is called when it's not parallel... ummm, also started with one beat variations, one arm on top of the other (dunno what it's called)... lots of experimentation and lots more to come (meg's and some other misc vids will help me here if I remember to watch them)...

6) start practising... anything...

occasionally... the mood does take me more often now

 Written by : Pogo69

7) halo 360 smooth and consistent

getting multiple complete rotations of halo 360/conveyor belt thingie now... not always, but... when it's on... it just keeps going... cool...

 Written by : Pogo69

8) steves smooth and consistent

nah... although... I can do it periodically... all the freakin wristbands still getting in the way... staff gets caught, although... I was able one time I was trying to miss the wrist altogether and just land the staff above the elbow and move it around the back of the neck... *shakes head at myself for helping my contact by compensating for jewellery*

 Written by : Pogo69

9) fishtails, at all

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY...!!!! finally... after giving up, entirely, I can do em... need now to work on left hand and forwards... also wanna work on being able to do them with the little double staffs...
