So this whole forum thing is pretty new to me, but here goes nothing....

I started poi sort of by accident two years ago, with a circus troupe at my college called the Barefoot Monkeys. Of course, I graduated 6 weeks after I discovered they were a pretty awesome group of people, which was very sad, but nonetheless, since I had made myself my very own poi, I continued to play around after graduation. I never got too much further than those 6 weeks of practice, however, so I still have a HELL of a lot to learn....though I did get to do fire poi once, and it was terrifying and amazing all at once and I'm dying to do it again. Anyway, here's all the rest of that introduction stuff...

Name: Jamie

Country: USA

Hometown: Boston, currently

DOB: undisclosed...

Age: in my 20's

Sex: Female

Occupation(s): I unfortunately work for an Insurance Company, and I also teach for the Princeton Review

Favorite Food(s): Bananas and Peanut Butter, Raspberries, Cookiedough Ice Cream, homemade bread

Favorite Color(s): lately, green is showing up in my wardrobe quite a bit.

Toys: poi, of course. and my ipod.

Hobbies other than the obvious: TRAVELING, reading, writing, attempting to speak foreign languages, adrenaline sports such as bungy jumping, skydiving and ziplining, when I have the time and money...

Education: BA in Classics and a minor in Western Philosophy

Favorite Authors: George RR Martin, Dan Simmons, James Joyce, Homer, Sophocles, Plato, and many more.

Favorite Movie(s): top 5 for now: Usual Suspects, Donnie Darko, English Patient, I Heart Huckabees, Batman Begins. Although I just saw the Departed recently, and found it gives a compelling case for top 5-hood.

Favorite TV show(s): Lost, Heroes, Grey's, and whatever else I can catch online, cause who has time for TV, really?

Plans for life in general: (i.e. what you want to do when you grow up) Write a book, travel the world, speak 7 languages, read 9 (that means ancient greek and latin too) become Divemaster Scuba certified, sail around the world, and get my blackbelt. And spin a lot of fire. smile

Favorite Music Artists/Composers: Dave Matthews, AfroCelt, a whole lot of 90's Alternative Rock, and a bunch of other stuff.

Favorie ice cream flavor(s): already mentioned....hmmm cookiedough.

Anyway, that's me. so......hi.

yeah, though while everyone else was learning about art and history and languages of Greece and Rome, I just stuck by Plato. My major should have been called Plato Studies. Too bad there's not so many jobs out there for Plato specialists. The theory of forms and immortality of the soul arn't so important to corporate america. alas.

So you are in Boston also, yes? Did you get the message I sent you?

I'd believe it, have you read his stuff? It's amazing... (they're making an HBO series from the Song of Fire and Ice!) but alas, I wasn't in boston 2 years ago. I was probably still in NY.

and thanks, Patrick! tis good to be here.

I like to think so, Ry :-) How's Brisbane this time of year? I visited in early April 2006, and quite liked it. Drove from Brisbane to Cairns, though unfortunately right in the middle of when cyclone Larry hit Innisfail. Made surfing in Noosa quite nice, but washed out my visit to the Whitsundays frown
