I have three days left of lecture in my life. After Friday, I will not sit in that *expletive deleted* lecture hall ever again. I have a hellish month of self study ahead, but at least no more lecture.

And I have no idea how I am going to survive these last three days. Today's lecture was painful beyond description. I just couldn't pay attention. I'm bored out of my skull! I came here to help people, to make a difference in their lives, to heal the sick and injured. I didn't come here to hear someone drone word-for-word off their PowerPoint presentations for up to eight hours a day (PowerPoint needs to be banned).

AARRRGHHH!!! I just want it to be OVER! I'm too old to be absorbing information in this manner anymore! I need to learn by DOING, not by being TOLD.

Ok, I don't feel any better, but at least I let it out.

It might be hard now Mr Mad Doctor, but give it another 10 years or so and you could be doing 4 days a week as a GP and raking it in...now there's a nice thought (that's what my mates doing anyway)
Permanent 3day w/e's can't be bad.

We had another horrible lecture today in which a professor tried to smash six hours of information into 90 minutes (and wound up going over by almost 20 minutes, forcing the next lecturer to move at breakneck speed to make up).

I hate this. I hate this. I hate this. Why is the end game the hardest?

Oh, and WHY is it that at an academic teaching hospital (supposedly one of the top ten in the whole world), nobody knows how to friggin' TEACH?

Hmmm, lectures..... I remember those. Use them for blissful daydreams, deep meditation, writing poetry, composing love letters, deciding what you're going to have for dinner, silly mind games, people-watching.....erm, this is assuming that you already have an in-depth understanding of what the poor geezer at the front is trying to get across to you

I bet you'll look back on them with deep fondness once you're doing 120 hour weeks, dealing with everything from hopelessly sick people to mindless hypochondriacs, geting flack off consultants and wondering why the nurses seem to know more about everything than you do (obviously not true, except that you've not slept for the last three days and can't even remember your own name and why you wanted to be a doctor in the first place ).

Enjoy them - they're nearly over forever. Good luck and have some sympathy for the lecturers - you only have to sit through them once - they have to give them over and over and over and over......

Dr. Noodlehead, I promise I will NEVER look back on lectures with fondness.

I may be miserable in the future, but (barring illness and disaster), never as miserable as I am in that lecture hall. I may wish to be home in bed or resting on some tropical beach, but NEVER in that lecture hall.

And I have no sympathy for the lecturers and their unprofessionalism. You work at a teaching center, you'd better be prepared to teach, not drone word-for-word off your powerpoints. I've given a lot of lectures in my life and I was prepared and I practiced good public speaking skills. I involved my students, I tried to make them understand why I thought that it was interesting/important stuff, and my student's ratings were excellent. So I have no sympathy for lecturers who can't be arsed to put together a decent talk, because I do know how much work goes into a good talk (and it's a lot), and I think it as part of my job.

Man, you really don't like lectures!

I agree, some people teach like they're addressing their old socks, but maybe they just don't have your enthusiam/ability/incentive to convey whatever message it is they're supposed to get across ('specially when they know they're confronted with a bored, disinterested audience). Don't know which comes first, a crap lecturer or hostile students - guess they feed off each other.

I hope you manage to make it through the last few hours of tedium and that your celebratory piss-up is a wild and funky affair, with much drunken debauchery and as much ether as you can nick from the labs .

Good luck and happy note taking

Bestest

(Have you considered lecturing rather than practice when you graduate? Or is that a bit of a sore point at the moment...)

Dr. Noodlehead, I'll do academic medicine, which means a combination of teaching, research, and practicing. I love teaching too much to give it up.

We've had some great lecturers this year, but they are few and far between.

As for the celebration, it's going to be very muted because once I'm done with classes, I then go straight into a month of studying for the United States Medical Licensing Examination Step I, which must be passed before starting my third year.

So on June 17, when I take it, there will be a bender that night...

Hey man, at least their not in German!

I agree with you though, it does mean a lot more to learn by doing. If it makes you feel any better, I probably have another 5 more years.

Can I use this thread to rant too?

I have sooo much work due at the moment for Uni - I'm completely snowed under...ugh
Plus, I'm an RA (resident advisor) at my college and tonight is my duty night - It's a friday night, so of course everyone is out partying and coming home drunk, either spewing everywhere or getting themselves locked out cause they've lost their keys in town...
So far I've cleaned up 4 spews, let 12 people into their rooms, broken up one courtyard brawl and cleaned up one set of blood covered knuckles...
Ah, it's a good life.... I love my college, but it's nights like this that test a person...!

I would soooo love to only have a few days of uni left at the moment...!

Anywayz, I feel better now Cheers..!

I'm DONE!!! NO MORE CLASSES!!!

Woo hoo!!! Now, I just need to pass this final and then pass boards and then I get to go and start delivering babies (no, I'm not a doctor yet and won't be for two more years, but I'm halfway there.)

Counting kindergarten, I have spent the last 21 years sitting in classes. I can't even begin to describe what it feels like to be done.
