Actually I sort of approve. It feels as if this girl has somehow been blighted by the treatment and denied the chance to grow up.
But she has the mental age of a 3 month old baby, and will always have.
How can a person like this grow up? She would be totally unable to understand changes in her body.
It feels wrong but from when you stand back it does seem the best course of action. An interesting case indeed.

Odd case - but I think i'd agree on the morals of it.

ive heard that when youre in surgery, quite often they'll take out your appendix while theyve got you open, because we've evolved past the point where its any use (i think it was from when we used to eat uncooked meat maybe??), but theres still a chance of it becoming infected/developing appendicitis

The appendix is involved in the digestion of cellulose (dietary fibre to us) in hindgut fermenters (generally herbivores that arn't ruminants). We can't digest cellulose, it is useless to us, and holds the risk of infection and rupture. In the case of someone who does not have the ability to explain the symptoms of a potentially very dangerous case of appendicitis, it could certainly be considered worthwhile to eliminate the risk altogether by removing the appendix.

I read the previous threads on this and they were full of 'this is against nature' 'I know what God wants' type chat.
Hope this one doesn't go that way. These parents seem to be thinking ahead in a responsible and loving way. Anyone who objects should go look after Ashley fulltime themselves for a decade or so. And love her so much they feel responsible for her not only now, but after they are dead and can no longer act to protect her.

I have decided that I agree with them. Things like keeping her small so that THEY can carry her and not machines. And how machines are impersonal. I agree with that.
