So I just spent 3 hours in my basement doing stop frame animation.
There are a few conditions I should point out about being in my basement. First of all there is a furnace right behind where I was working so it was unbearably hot, secondly I knocked over a bunch of containers of cat litter we have down there to soak up fuel incase of a furnace oil leak. So the air was full of dust and I could hardly breath. Ontop of all of this I am arachniphobic and the basement is full of spiders. Oh and don't forget my mouth is numb from just comeing back from the dentist.
Now back to the animation. I did 10 test frames to make sure it was recording and it was. I started animating really awesome stuff at an insane pace, it seemed to be comeing out the way I planned. The camera kept shutting it's self off which kept my level of agravating pretty high and the above conditions didn't help. But I was running on adrenaline, I was in a trance like state as I rapidly moved the material I was animating, took a picture, moved the material, took a picture, Adjusted the lighting accordingly, moved the material, took another picture. It was actually really fun.
So I finished it up. I had been inspired to do a lot of things outside of my plan which were totally awesome. I finish the last frame and rewind the camera to play it back.
ALL I SEE ARE THE FIRST 10 FRAMES!!$$!!$$
I need to smash something really badly but instead im typing my stupid story here.

Dat's ok. I tried to get online to do some internet banking yesterday, but was told I needed to download a patch from satan masquerading as Microsoft. So I went onto the site, and with their really unclear labelling couldn't find out which one I needed. So I got them to scan my computer for any missing patches. Then I downloaded all of those, except one that needed to be dowloaded separately. That took two hours.
And guess what? The patch I needed was bundled into the only one I didn't download. So now I have even more of microsoft bollocks on my computer, and still can't do what I want.

Yeah but you can always download that bundle. It's not like if you fail once it's unachievable. I seriously doubt I will have the artistic energy and inspiration to redo this animation. It's just the sort of thing that doesn't happen twice in the row. I might be able to draw up a new plan but I will never be able to do this plan with the same enthuthiasm and concentration that I JUST WASTED TONIGHT.

Yeah but you can always download that bundle. It's not like if you fail once it's unachievable. I seriously doubt I will have the artistic energy and inspiration to redo this animation. I've had times when I've worked really really hard on something original and unique, then lost it. I think everyone has. Its a terrible feeling of wasted effort and not being able to recover the thing they've lost.
Like you said, if you try to re-create it, there won't be that same passion, inspiration and invention that went into the first version. You'll be too tempted to try to just emulate the first version. I'd imagine that for you the process and creation of something is more important to you than that end product you create. You've lost the end product, but your practice at that process you have to keep.
Like losing a video of your greatest spinning performance, you can't see it again, which is sad, but you still did it.
Recreation is nowhere near as fun a process as original creation. Not for me anyways.
Learn from your experience, go off and have a or or whatevers your poison. Come back and make something totally new and better. And maybe much later you can come back to this lost project and remake it with a fresh perspective.
Anyways thats enough unsolicited advice for one day

I've had times when I've worked really really hard on something original and unique, then lost it. I think everyone has. Its a terrible feeling of wasted effort and not being able to recover the thing they've lost.
Like you said, if you try to re-create it, there won't be that same passion, inspiration and invention that went into the first version. You'll be too tempted to try to just emulate the first version. I'd imagine that for you the process and creation of something is more important to you than that end product you create. You've lost the end product, but your practice at that process you have to keep.
Like losing a video of your greatest spinning performance, you can't see it again, which is sad, but you still did it.

Thanks guys. I think my next attempt is going to be a lot more frames per second and im spending more time focusing on the lighting so maybe this is for the better. I was just so angry last night. Atleast I avoided breaking my knuckles on walls .
