Ahhhh, just had the amazing pleasure of spending 5 days or so with Clare and Lisa of the delectable FirePoise. Had 3 gigs, 3 days of mental rehearsals, 1 afternoon of fun and a whole day of cleaning a car.

The up-side of this (aside from spending lovely time with lovely people in a lovely place) was lots of footage.

Only got one video finished at the moment - but I have to say it's my personal faveourite.

Will hopefully get a couple more up later, but for now:

Burnt Farl

66mb DivX Avi (Might as well start putting up larger files as lots of people are on broadband nowadays)

Some beautiful wiggling and spinning from Clare, and some vaguely wiggly techy stuff from me, plus some Contact Juggling which is pretty much identical to any CJ i ever do and some staffing malarky. There's rather too much of me in it really, this isn't vanity. Possibly.

Some Enchanted Evening

Some clips of us spinning at the Enchanted Forest evening in Belfast Botanic Garden. Lots of UV biggrin Very floaty...

The Rock & Roll lifestyle of spinners

A mini rockumentary on the trials and tribulations of putting on a show. Sort of. Does actually have some spinning in it... Probably only funny if you were there. Ho-hum.

Massive thanks to Clare for helping me remember how to spin properly - the Tuesday night fire session was one of my best fire spins ever, if only I'd recorded it ubblol

DivX as always...
File sizes are a perfect match so I don't think it's corrupted in the upload.
Anyone else having problems?

Yep, I tried opening it with the latest version of the DivX player and got the message 'failed to open file. please check that it is a valid video file.'

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Oh - and Clare wanted me to point out that it was incredibly windy when we filmed this which is why her flags tangle occasionally.
Sadly, the wind didn't affect my poi or staff - I just mess up lots smile
Although it was pretty darn cold - so that can be my excuse.

Right, second video up.
A mild bodge-job, but the music (I think) fits beautifully - especially Clare's antispin flowers which are perfectly in time...

Hurrah for Enchanted Evenings... bounce

Lots of fun in Lisa's lovely fairy dresses... thanks Durbs, it was fantastic to have you there xx

Edit:

First vid was Durbs and I visiting the Magic Lighthouse in Donaghadee Harbour...

It's magic because we take all our spinner visitors there and always have a lovely time and get great pics.

Second vid was the Enchanted Evenings in Botannic Gardens, Belfast.

Every autumn, for four nights, Belfast council pays for the park to be turned into an enchanted glen - with coloured lights in the trees, and circus performers running about in costume, doing acro, juggling fire, dressing up as mushrooms and faeries.

We were on the bandstand stage this year, with UV mushrooms and flowers (which don't show up too well) and us, dressed in white faery costumes (made by Lisa) and K8 staffs. Then Durbs turned up and ponced about with some aerotechs rolleyes

Twas much fun biggrin

On my spinning, rather than on the video (which personally I think is a nice piece of eye-candy)
The 2nd vids are just to show what we got up to, so you needn't crit them.

The spinning i can't really give crit for because it kicks ass, and is pretty damn Jedi... well, apart from don't f*ck up, but you knew that already. wink

With Double staff, It really bugs me when they go out of time. I'm really anal about symmetry. When you spin them, it doesn't happen often at all, but it's still something to be aware of.

I do have some crit on your contact, though...

Slow down... wink I fall into this trap as well.i try and keep up with the music too much. while it feels good to be in perfect time, it looks better to do everything at the half the speed. (instead of isolating for one beat, isolate for two, etc etc) Half or even quarter the speed is still in time.

Your chest rolls could look more relaxed. to me, CJ should look effortless. try popping your chest out more, and making a wider circle with your arms? you want the ball to roll higher on your chest...

Isolate your waves more. Wow, i never thought I'd be saying that to you... smile and wave slower. I've found that waves look way better when they're slowed down.

Milk some of your moves. You do them for the tiniest amount of time, your always changing... it's hard to keep up. To keep an audience completely captured, give them a chance to go 'WTF?!' at your isolation, rather than the fast transitions. (IMO wink ) Too fast, and they get bored watching.

Why do you kick your leg up? with poi, yes, with CJ, it makes no sense... unless you wave into it, I suppose...

I love the smiles at the end!!

I've recently found out how important dime stops are (at least, I think that's the right terminology... you know, pop...move...pop...move...pop etc...) everyone should

practise their stopping and starting more.

Your ball isolation is pretty damn good. like I said before, Milk it. it's worth milking. smile

I was watching you do way better stuff at bristol, in sense of speed control, and at bristol, what you were doing looked like it had way more thought put into it.

I think you suffer from a similar thing to me... the best stuff is never caught on camera. smile

All in all, Good stuff, but fast... even after a year away from us lot in the uk, you can still keep up. smile

Hope that helps... smile

I have no idea, it's a habit biggrin If watch any of my videos, that leg comes up. Mildly irritating. It even happens when I'm flying kites (not that I do this very often)
Perhaps I can pass it off as "And now this trick....standing on one leg!" wink
