Has anyone considered 'systematic' ways of learning poi moves, or does anyone learn or teach poi in a systematic way?

e.g to learn the 3-beat weave:

Step 1: Learn the 2-beat weave, right hand on top.
Step 2: Learn the 2-beat weave, left hand on top.
Step 3: Learn to transition from one to the other while spinning.
Step 4: Constant transition from one to the other - the 3-beat weave.

or anything else? Are there any other systematic methods people have stumbled upon or used?

though its worth trying to find a few different ways as some people will find one easier than the others smile

As I do all the time:

-------------------

-Foreward

-Backward

=> (implicates)

-Turn left

-Turn right

=>

-Complete move

-------------------

Usually there is way to go one level down or up

by the baet count. Transition could be con-

sidered as spinning between diffrent levels.

hmm I have never grasped the beat system at all - I do not understand why the 3-beat is called the 3-beat, for example. What is the 4-beat weave then?

somehow a 3-beat weave strikes me as something that should be asymmetric. I can *sort of* understand the idea (the 5-beat has, to my mind, got 2 more beats than the 3-beat)

What other systematic methods do people know to teach a specific move? I have a surprising number of even-more-newcomers-than-me about who, for reasons unknown, look to me for any teaching they want (in addition to this site).
