Doesn't look choreographed. There's no form whatsoever. Granted, I realize that all "choreography" means is someone said, "alright, everyone with a staff do this, everyone with poi do this, you with the fingers, just, uh, er-- do this." (technically, that's all it would take to be called choreographed.) wink

There was form!

Inner circle consited of all the 'odd' toys you get.
Next cirl had staff
Next circle had double staff
Next circle poi
And the outer circle was another of poi.

All spinning a neutral position.
First signal inner circle starts, stops when finsished
Then the next circle, and the next etc..until all the circles have span their piece.
Then on the final signal we all did our set routines together, and then we could 'freestyle' it.

The guys that arranged it did such a good job.
As you can imagen trying to arrange 180 stoned hippies is a very hard indeed!

I'm sure an ariel unedited shot of what we did would show you what we did better.

But for any of us to see that, we have to wait for the DVD to come out rolleyes

You're right, I bet it would have looked better from above, but from eye level, all I saw appeared to be chaos with a dash of organization. Such is the curse of being on the ground, however. I'm sure It would look absolutely beautiful viewed from above. beerchug

I believe the guys organising it had "official" cameras who were on top of a van, that along with the fact that we were on a hill should have given a fairly high POV and some good footage, not seen any of it released yet tho smile

Nice!

Looks great and Im sure it was totally fun... But hardly a record. I believe there were over 600 in last year's Burning Man fire conclave. Not sure what the record is though, if there is one.

Let's turn those old bridges we crossed into ashes.
We'll blaze a new trail,
and torch the rough patches.

What is it about record attempts that people think its worth not having a safety person close by in order to set a record which probably won't even be published in the book anyway?

I'm not sure I like the tone of your post there shrug

OK so as far as my knowledge goes there were not allocated safetys(somebody please correct me if I am wrong), but the amount of people spectating around our circle formation was massive, enough for one person to see a person in trouble and go and help.

And how exactly did you find out there was 'no fire safetys'. From the video? Any peice of footage could be edited for your viewing pleasure however the creator wishes. For all you know there could have been a bright orange elephant standing on stilts in the background.

Having said that, checks were made before we went in to see that we could do the routine, and that we were experianced spinners, as I'm sure you'll agree the more you spin, the less you hit yourself.

We are NOT fire breathers, thus the risk of injury is greatly reduced.

Hear all that whooping and hollaring at the beginning of the video as we're all waiting to start? You can't get that feeling anywhere else. It's magical.

I for one am extremely proud of what I took part in, whether its a world record or not, and its certainly something that I'll remember for the rest of my life.

Actually, before we started, they went through the safety routine. If any was in trouble we were to make a lot of (obivous) noise about it. There were people watching to keep an eye on things too. If anything had gone wrong they would have beeped repeatedly on the horn of the van. If that happened we were instructed to lay down our toys and carefully take a few steps back from them so that the fire marshalls and medical people nearby could get to those that needed it.

Aimee has a good point too - Fire breathing is considerably more dangerous than spinning fire toys (and not just for the performer!).

What made you think there was a lack of safety at the attempt?

Does anybody know exactly how many people were involved in the record attempt? And has it been recognised or is it unofficial?

they did count us, they said we broke the old record by 2 people, and then more people joined in. the old record was 173 people, so we were at least 180 people there.
