I have been performing now since i was about 13 (after I lost my sight.) I am looking for a new set of poi at the moment and hoping to find someone that can make some cheap, or FREE! Studying too much no cash. All the work I do is vountary. Not to mention the system here is really bad at times. I also use devil stick and diablo that I forgot to mention in my Intro.
Thanks

Hi Rosita; sorry to hear about your recent loss of equipment.

As I'm sure you know, good non-fire poi can be easily made out of nice looking socks with water-containing ballons in the end.

Probably your best bet to get hold of fire/glow equipment is to meet up with HOP spinners at a local meet, I'm sure some will happily pass on a bit of second hand equipment.

I'd like to ask you if you juggle?

I teach juggling/poi/circus skills to various community/school groups and have considered the feasability of teaching blind groups to juggle.

It's something I can do (with a blindfold) and I wonder if many blind individuals would actually have an advantage due to them being skilled at operating in a non-visual world.

Have you any thoughts on it, or do you know of any one else doing this?

I can juggle but I prefer clubs to balls. (They got stolen also Regarding other blind people juggling I work at lot by what i hear to teach blind people to juggle you will need balls or batons that make a noise. I use standard batons etc. But to learn the co-ordination I would imagine that the sound would be needed. Hope this helps.

Hi Not a stupid question actually. I use a program called JAWS it is a screen reader and reads everything on screen it tells me where links our etc. I can also use a braille display that converts text in to braille enabling me to read the screen. Does this one answer your qyestion. Thanks

hi rosita I'm a newbie too
pretty cool this poi thing eh? hows it going? do you have anyone to practice with? I'm guessing there will be clubs down there. Me and a friend have a laugh together but Im desperate to get on a bit further with people who know more than me - wouldn't be hard - do you practise/perform alone?
how long have you been training dogs?
feel free to answer in your own time no pressure!!!! wink

Hiya Rosita,
If you're looking for cheap poi then there are instructions for making sock poi on a couple of sites. I've not tried the instructions myself though.
Send my love to the dogs hug

Hello Sun_puppy and Ebf.
The dogs are great I have been training dogs and people (orientation and mobility) for nearly 6 years. Its ggod but it can get a little tedious at times. I also teach blind children braille. I have tried getting my screenreader to read the instructions for making sick poi. They are a little muddled. Thanks
