Posted:i would advise against dog hair simply cos it tangles very easily, i have an aviary and used dog hair as bedding once and the babies ended up with it all tied around their feet and one lost a toe cos of it

Posted:Without a warm nest the bird (and possibly any babies) would die. Survival overrides fear, so yes.

Posted:The kind of dog is a border terrier. small and fluffy and brown. Jonny has a very good point. This could also carry on to another debate. is the need for survival stronger than that of fear? what if its pertifying fear and you physically, or what if you have a fear of spiders and your being eaten by a giant one!!!

Posted:Hmm i see your point, though we have to remember that the bird is only using dog hair and not the dog itself, like Arty said :

On the whole fear\survival thing, I guess that it also depends on the person in the situation. Some people run, some fight and some become paralised in a fearful situation. I say that survival overrides fear because of this. Even the people who are paralyzed want to fight back or run even if they cant.

Well at least thats what i think. (Or at least i think thats what I think? confused)

Im confused now.

What would I know, I'm a crocodile. I'd eat the bird and be done with it.

Posted:Tis true, you wouldnt want to make a nest from spiders legs if you have a fear of spiders.

But we're not birds, and they eat spiders anyway. I think instinct would take over. The idea of free bedding should over ride the fear factor as Jonny Rock pointed out.
