how come when ever you yell somthing embarrasing to someone at a party everything goes quiet all of a sudden?

why is it when you tell a joke half way through it someone will interupt and by the time you get back to the joke its not funny any more

If you have to argue with the patient to get the patient to agree to the procedure...something will go horribly wrong during the procedure.
