Hi Spinners! I’m feeling rather shy redface about this business of introducing myself as I’m so very ‘green’. I got into poi about a week ago, made my own from a couple of tennis balls the dogs rejected and a pair of nylon knee highs that belonged to my late lamented Mum. I’m working through the online lessons (grateful thanks to HoP staff for these, since at present I don’t know any spinners in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne). Although I’m just getting started, poi is becoming a family affair. I was introduced to it by my son, Mags the Jedi. My eldest grandchild (his daughter Isabelle) can do butterflies and she’s only five years old! Needless to say, I can’t – yet. I’ve got really hooked on reading others’ threads, now I’ve got to come out of the woodwork and introduce myself, so here I am. Or as my customised car number plate says “YER I BE”. I was born in Devon and that’s how we say “here I am” in West Country talk. BTW, I really, really miss West Country cider! beerchug bye

Hi Skully, I'm in the process of selling the house and applying for jobs. I think we're getting an offer today, don't know if we'll accept though. And I'm being interviewed by phone in a couple of days for a job in London, so I could be back 'ere long! Martin, the 'other half', won't get back until end October but I can start nest-building in UK for us in the meantime. I'll let you know what happens.

I do hope you can get that Gidgie person over, I missed her by a whisker here in Melbourne last year. Hey, Gidg, you sound a Really Important Person in your field, I'm impressed. But I do understand about money, we mere librarians, however technological and I am, get peanuts.

I never thought of being an important person in my field. To me it's just a job. If I could figure out how to work for myself, keep my current standard of living and be able to travel like I want, I would be leaving that job so fast it would make their heads spin.

Hi there
Well, it seems I'm coming back a lot sooner than I expected, in three weeks to be precise. This is why I've been for some days. It all happened very fast. Now I have to pack up a household etc. etc. It was hard getting a ticket out of Melbourne, the World and His Wife are leaving from the Commonwealth Games the very week I want a flight, and I couldn't get one just when I wanted. However, that's sorted now.

So - I'll be on my way soon. Hey Gidg, UK is nearer USA than Australia, isn't it? So get on over. Skully, Wales isn't so far from London, where I'll be living, and I'm on the west side. Look forward to meeting somewhere sometime. Hooray!

Hi Guys

I'm flat chat (as we Aussies say) getting ends tied up at work, I finish tomorrow (Friday 10 March) and then have two weeks frantically sorting out things. Gotta find somewhere for my man and two dogs to live for a few months until they can follow on.

Where in Clapham do they meet? Clapham Commonis very near to where I live there. I'll try to make it. Any idea of time of day?

Mags, sorry you found out that way. I've been trying to phone, MSN etc. but you've been "Away". But at least you know now. My only phone contact will be my former UK mobile number.

I want to get to USA sometime, I want to visit my favourite cousin in Baltimore as soon as possible. Are you anywhere near there, Gidg?

Oh dear, work calls, must run bounce2 bounce bounce2 bounce

Baltimore? Maryland? Sorry RosieMary, but that is completely on the other side of the country. Maryland is on the East coast and Oregon in on the West. The only way I could get farther is if I lived in Hawaii.

Skully, thanks for the PM, got it, will do my best to be there. I'll be the one with a blue nose and wrapped up to the eyebrows. I'm leaving weather in the 30sC here! See you soon. weavesmiley Also, I'm going to be one of the "maturer" people around. Don't know if the poi will have got there by then, but. ubblol

Quick post to say that Rosie arrived in the UK yesterday, knackered from the 20+ hour flight from nostralia. Some of you lucky people will get to meet her at Clapham on sunday.

I have to wait even longer to see her! And she's me mum!

Ah well. Big up the Clapham posse (whistle crew at the ready ubblol )

Why are you two fighting about me? I'm no great shakes, but not having been in the States as a twirly person, it is Australia and UK that claim me. BTW, do you know what bus drivers in England call Twirlies? These are people with concession cards for buses which can only be used after 9.30am. If someone tries to get on a bus before this time, they are reputed to say "Oh, am I too early?" [twirly, see?] biggrin

Skully, I'm so sorry not to have seen you the other day. I decided not to cross the common after speaking to you. It came on rainy and windy and I was still feeling s**t. I pulled tendons in my foot (belly dancing is SO dangerous) frown and the foot hurt, so I bailed out and went to Hemel Hempstead instead. We'll be sure to meet at some time though, now that I'm not the other side of the world. Mags says he might come up to London to see me the weekend after Easter, yeay! He can teach me some more twirls, I left my HoP DVD behind by mistake.

Take care all of you. hug

It is pretty cool keeping in touch with Mags on HoP. If I wasn't on HoP I prolly wouldn't know what that son of mine was doing from week to week. lolsign We actually haven't managed to spin together since he taught me my first moves about two years ago as I've been in Oz. But now I'm Right Side Up, no doubt I'll be learning some more. And maybe meet some of the spinners over here.

Hi Skully, hope you're feeling better. I am better except for the foot which goes on strike from time to time. It really was the belly dancing that messed it up. Maybe I should go back to the knitting! ubbloco

I'll try and get to Cornwall before too long, I haven't had a decent pint of cider since my return. Back to work. grouphug to you all.
bye
