534 was the first 4b siteswap i learnt. ubblove

i actually find it easier than 531 to keep in rhythm.

i found 53444 *much* harder.

but with 534 i do a normal 5 whereas 53444 i'm doing the 5 completely on the outside of the pattern so that may be why i'm finding it harder...?

still, ad's 4b tennis kicks both of those siteswaps' arses smile

Does the 534445344453444 thing mean 5 beats 3 beats 4 beats 4 beats 4 beats? Then repeat but it'd be repeated on the opposite side cuz its a set of 5? confused

confundled confused

so what are you doing cole?

534 was the first one i learnt. but 534534534534 is veeeery different(as in left hand 5, right hand 5 left hand 5...). and then 534534534534 with the 5 outside is different again, and loooovely.
and 5344453444 is the same ball popping back and forth on the outside('true' tennis). yup its tricky

and i could of swored ads' tennis is 534534534534... tongue memory ain't what it was when i was a youngster tho. ubbangel

apologies for the swearage. wink you knew it was only cause i cared ubblove hug

have you looked at flights yet? spank if not.

custom: siteswap is a looovely thing which is basically juggling notation. coleman will give you a link i promise *looks pointedly in coles direction*

and tennis is a juggling trick where 1 ball pops from one side to the other in a reverse cascade throw when the other two are staying in a normal cascade pattern ubblove

incidentally my 5b tennis is better, esp as went 240 catches of 5 yesterday.... ubblove

smiles.

no wonder we've gone all nerdy again, this being wills thread and all ubblol

okay (quick hug first though hug),
534
and
534534534534

same trick innit.
otherwise you're talking bout something like 44453444444444 which is definitely easier than sitting in a 'different height every throw' type pattern.

to be honest, i don't understand ad's 4b tennis at all - it has a two-throws-from-the-same-hand bit in it i think...
i know that his tennis ball is not a 5 and *just* floats over the pattern and there also seems to only be two normal fountain throws (4's) between each tennis throw confused

for custom: this will give you a decent grounding in siteswap theory and how/why it works.
basically it defines numbers which describe throws in terms of proportional height.
e.g. a 3 will be half the height of a 4 and 5 is double the height of a 4, 6 is double the height of a 5 and so on.
this has the handy result that for throw at height n (e.g. 3) there is time for n-1 throws to be made before that ball is thrown again (e.g. for a 3, you can make 2 throws before throwing that ball again).
odd number throws cross, even number throws leave and land in the same hand.
and lastly there can be no collisions (balls landing in a hand at the same time) or the pattern is invalid (that is as long as no-one mentions squeeze catches...).

here is a nice little applet that you can type siteswap patterns into and make the stickman juggle them perfectly for you.

i thought i'd add a few nice 5b siteswaps for will to try one day (so i don't feel so bad for taking over his intro thread with all this stuff he probably already knows):

915 - similar to how 777171 or 777771 looks a bit like a 5b version of 5551 like you were talking about on rec.juggling, this trick looks a bit like a 5b version of 534
91951
96181
(6x,8x)(2x,4x) - gorgeous trick that i've not seen in real life yet
(8,6x)(2x,4)
(2x,8)(8,2x) - full on 5b box

Ha! Hello Rob, Cole, and everyone on HoP.

Wait a minute, isn't this a poi site for people to talk about poi? I've just come off rec.juggling...finally worked out what i've been working on all week - it is 777171 - I also cracked 11,1,7,1 (high-low 5 ball shower).

Cole thanx for the thread to "why do jugglers hate poi?" - i read it with great interest, and spent most of the afternoon writing my 2 bob's worth only to delete it after re-reading it and thinking what a load of crap it was. Still, it was more fun than working :-)
I will post a reply sometime this weekend if i get the chance.

seven going badly, but it has been for months thanks Rob. 5 going well tho. Wait a minute, shouldn't i be talking about poi?

p.s. thanks cole but still don't understand what a 2x is...show me on tue.

Hello to all you guys too. I think i first came on here about two weeks ago, and dare i say it i think it is better (and more firendly) than IJD. Sorry i couldn't provide Japanese speakers with more replies in Japanese, but my knowledge of the language is quite limited. I did a years course about 5 years ago, and i only remember certain sentences and some grammar.

Some of your names are slightly more familiar to me now too wink

And since coming on here i have decided to drop the juggling balls for half an hour a week and take up more poi - then i might be able to understand what an air wrap or 5/7 beat weave is.
