Well I've just realised I haven't got an intro thread! Must have been wiped out in the last great server wars of 2003.

Thought I'd up date this with a bit more personal info...especially as this thread was very lonely way back on page 3.
Name: Duncan Huxley
DOB: Thurs May 12th '77 (one day premature..should have been friday 13th!!)
Born raised and live (mostly): Telford, Shropshire, UK of A
Hair: Going....going.....nearly gone...so making up for it with facial growth where practically possible! It started to go grey at 14
but is still mostly dark brown.
Marital Status: Been with my Girlfriend GeorgeB since March 2003, I love her dearly
and we now live in the house we bought together. Ain't love sweet ya'll!! We now have a beautiful son called Edan who was born on 27th August 2005. He's awsome and makes my life complete
Piercings: One small stud in my labret and a 20mm bar somewhere else, ask nicely and I'll show you
Family: Lots. Love my parents dearly but to say I don't get on with my siblings is an understatement.
Friends: I lurve all my buddies here
and have mets loads of you now. I've never been part of an online community before and I can't imagine that any others would be half as good as this place and I can't wait to meet more and more of you as often as possible. I'm a member of my local VW club Fun Lovin Flat Fours so if you have any old VW related questions you know where I am 
Fave Colour: Blue with a hint of Blue, add some Blue for tone and then top it off with some Blue
Cars: A '79 VW Van and '69 Beetle and a 98' Toledo.
Bikes: One push bike that does a lot of miles! (at least 4 a day, that's about 6Km's I think)
Drink: Tea...mmmmmm....teeeeea!! Real beer not that crappy Lager stuff, give me Mild or Bitter or Real Ale any day! Oh and lots of neat Vodka fresh from the freezer!! mmmmm
Food: Big fat chips and generally anything without much meat in it (have recently discovered love for Aubergin) although I'm not vehetarian, I just don't eat much of it. I can't resist dirty kebabs and my Mom's Sunday dinners
Toys: Poi: socks, tails and of course fire.
Staff: A Mech phat one and some nice mattyB staffs left over from PLAY. not that i play with them much these days, I don't have time!!
Other: Death Beamers HoP monkey fist meteors and various things that end up in various uses!

Thanks for the congrats and well wishes everyone we really REALLY wanted to break the news at Bristol but the 12week scan wasn't until yesterday afternoon. We've had a few problems along the way so didn't want to tell folks we were expecting to then tell them it wasn't working properly, or worse. But the scan showed everything was completely normal and all the problems we had have now totally dissapeared! 
George is feeling fat already of course but to me it's just more beauty to love each day
We won't find out if this one is a boy or girl until it's out cuz they now charge £50 for the privilage of finding out. Even tho it's on the NHS using the machines we've paid for, in the hospital we've paid for, paying the rates and running costs that we pay, utilising staff whose wages we pay and would take place during the 20 week scan that they do without charge. It's rialed me more than paying the £2 parking fee at the hospital for a 20 minute appointment, it's worse than friggin London City Centre parking prices!
But, rant aside, I'm over the moon!

Obviously I have no idea how these things work, but its not an actualy test or anything they have to do is it? I thought it was just a case of whoever did the scan looking at the screen and judging by that?
How the hell can they charge £50 for them to tell you?
Hmmm... I should probably stop ranting as I have absolutely no idea about babies and am probably completely wrong...ah well!

i know that sometimes it can be really hard to tell just from a scan and so the scans can end up taking much more time than they really need to - i guess this could be a reason they're trying to scare people off asking?

Apart from you not knowing, it makes it really difficult for relatives to give you nice little pink or blue babysuits! Maybe you could write to the baby clothes industry telling them how much money they miss out on, and they could put pressure on the NHS?
Seriously though I've heard about that before, it's ridiculous. Especially if they are doing more scans anyway, I thought they'd only do one

I think I will write to them Cole. The official blurb is
"The 20 week scan is an abnormality scan, establishing the gender of the unborn baby is not part of the abnormality scan. To establish the gender of the unborn baby you must return at 23 weeks for the gender scan. This scan will be to establish the gender ONLY and no other checks will take place. A free photo of the scan is included."
So basically it doesn't save any time as it takes a whole seperate scan to do it. Which means whole extra time to book, confirm, arrive and be directed, de-robed, jellied up, scanned, clean up, re dress, print picture and be escorted from the room/ward.
It's a scan scam. £50 in their pockets cuz they have no idea how to run hospitals efficiently while maintaining high levels of care so they may as well sneak even more cash from your pockets instead of making improvements in house to reduce overall running costs. Or that's how I see it anyway.

If you really want to know about the efficiency of the NHS, I went to see a doctor in April 05 about my wrists (carpal tunnel syndrome) and I'm still waiting for the diagnosis
I've finally had the test done in May, so it's only taken them a year to do that, and another 4 months counting to let me know the result (thank God I did physiology at uni and know from the graphs it's just the carpal tunnel, and not my diabetes killing the nerves which is what the horrible "specialist" that gave me a whole 4 minutes of his time had said was a likely option).
If they get to that level of efficiency for BABIES they'll tell you if you're pregnant when the baby's 1 year old
Still the fact that they think giving you a FREE PHOTO with the 50 pound scan is generous is quite sad.
