hey guys. Ive currently got a standard bo staff, but was thinking. what if you took some sort of metal tubing, put some silicone tubing over it and added weights to the ends. this thing would do contact like crazy. Ive got a small baton made the same way, and i can do all the tricks you can do with crystal stix with my hands as well as some decent twirling. i was wondering if anyone had any info on this, wheather it would work well, or where to get some silicone tubing

silicone is very heat/fire resistant also.

If you're not going for fire you could also use some heatshrink tubing, comes in tons of colors and you'd just have to slip it over and take a heat gun to it and you'd be set

well I've never spun with it, just an idea.. It would be a semi rubbery/plastic texture

erm...yeah kinda....cept you cut the tubing using a heated metal blade...i wouldnt spin w\ it untill you test it first....strenously....also you dont know if the tubing is all silicone or not

im pretty sure its silicone im talking about. but they would work with fire, as you can see here. they are basically modified crystal stix, and its my crystal stix that gave me the idea. In fact, crystal-stix.com now has a super long superflight crystal stick that could be used as a small staff. but the skin, silicon traction is awesome on my crystal stix, and they downt work as good as they used to!

now....if youll take a nice close look at those pix...youll see 2 things....
the so called "fireproof silicone" doesnt extend all the way to the wick...looks like around 4 inches of exposed metal on each side......they're also devilstix....not a short staff....i mean...good thought and all.....but yeah......

no, what i mean, is crystal stix is selling a set that is long, not the ones in the pics, i use mine as batons, not the same thing. i dont remember how long they are, and the site doesnt say, but ive played with them and they are about 3 feet. very small staff i guess

I decided to make silicon contact staff grip.
Don't you know if the classic devilstick
guiding sticks grip is stretchy enough
to slip and put it on?
staff diameter is about 5mm wider
than stick one.

Yup. I think we've got that just about covered by now. I posted this 3 years ago, and firetoys has since made a nice contact staff very similar to how I imagined it, so I dont think I'll worry about making my own anymore :P

I've tried the 1mm flowerstic silicon
and it's useless.

well as this threads been ressurected...
Firetoys make fiberglass core contact staves with a flush silicone grip. I really like them, and plenty of others do too, but just as many people don't.
you either like it being a bit grippy and get used to it, or you prefer slippery staves, it's all totally subjective

I found the firetoys fibre contact bouncy it's ok but 1 slight mistake and it bounces away from the body only a useful stick if you are very smooth at contact I could only get 2 consecutive matrix out of it.
A couple of balls short of a full cascade... or maybe a few cards short of a deck... we'll see how this all fans out.
