This web page is only a few years old, yet seems so much older?

But You Know What! There are soooooooo many other Fire spinners Out there That are Not on Home Of Poi, and just are so amazing because they go out and Dance. Instead of sitting on their buts. On the Computer, Talking Moves that every one can do, but puts diffrent names on them, thinking they where the first to do them.
I think that is silly! Don't you?
( Spontanious Fire Lash!!! Sorry)
All of the basics are in the lesson section, and we are just Scratching the Serface of the Fire Arts there. There are soooooo many moves in all 7 directions of the dance, that it is Mind Boggling, and admit, I am just a begginner in the great sceem of things wink.
Moreover, one person in the UK could dream up a fantastic set of moves, and another person on an island in the south pasific could be learning the Same Set in a Diffrent Style. It is global Concisness spread through out our times.
You get Me? or have I just come from a wild party?
The Fire Arts are growing at a rapid speed, Not 5 years ago, after two years of practicing/ teaching, did it seem (to me) to boom. But Now it seems every one and there Sister/Brother are spinning Poi/Staffs around like Hoola-Hoops! eek

Is this just a Fad, or is this Fire deeply ingrained in you?

You tell me.
I am an Aries, with a Leo Rising. Double Fire Sign with a water sign in there as well. I was born with The Fire deeply rooted inside, and take Fire Dancing very Seriously. Some people are more Air or water, and some Earth too. These Elements are a very powerful forces in our lives, and are all equally powerful.

I Guess, I Just Want to Know;
How Fire has effected you as an Infinite Being? Where you think you will be spinning in ten years, and where the Fine Art will go from here?

i can't speak for everyone, but fire for me a is an intensely spiritual thing.

that's why i'm kind of against it becomming so mainstream, because although i would love for everyone to have fun and enjoy themself spinning, it's something like having sex in a church. It doesn't seem right without proper appreciation of what it means, what it can do for you and how it can change your life.

I had a dream that my friend had a
strong-bad pop up book,
it was the book of my dreams.

I spin because I like the skill it takes and dig the slide of muscles over each other. No more a religious experience than any other of my hobbies I'm afraid.

There is a slight possibility that I am not actually right all of the time.

or, if I'm being sensible...

I don't know why I do it exactly - I just love spinning smile
It keeps me active, keeps me challenged, spinning fire is a great rush, I've always loved performing infront of people (I'm a drummer too), I've yet to hit a "wall" with poi as I did with juggling and so am constantly progressing (all-be-it at varying rates)

I use it for so many different things too; to relax, to socialise, to earn money, to help others, to do things I've always wanted to do...

It's just such a big "thing" in my life that there's no one reason why I do it.

Same here, and it's relaxing and pretty. I've been spinning for a good couple of years now and have probably only done fire a couple of dozen times... it's not what I'm in it for.

We can control it, and have it centimeters from our skin, sometinmes even touching it, and yet it has the power to destroy everything in its path. its amazing...

I like the Rush as well Durbs! I do it for Myself however, it keeps me creative. (Although I do like the attention, and how every one looks at me diffrently afterwards) biggrin
We are just scratching the serface of the Fire arts, I think there is a long way to go with the dance. I thought after 6 years of learnning and practicing moves that I was good, but last summer I was Humbled by the quality of fire dancing I saw just on the West Coast! I learned alot travleing to diffrent Festivals, From Killer Moves and styles to building Diffrent Kinds of Poi Cages, there is sooooo much more to learn!!
There is so many Fire Dancers out there who are Not on HOP, or have been and stay away. (Not to say HOP is a bad thing, but there is alot of Talk here.) I Loved getting Out of the 'Computer Box', and in to the creative Life force within the Living Masses. I learned so much out there, and will be going back this summer hopfully. rolleyes

I love the Energy of the Fire! How it lives through me, and I can controle and Dance with such a Powerful Element. It has Drasticly Changed my course in Life a few times. People who I would have never met before, Flock like Moths to a Fire, and we connect.

Follow your Passions, Follow your Bliss.

for me firestaff has become my zen time...its my connection back to something spiritual i suppose, u get fed crap all ur life and you rebel from it and i have found my own path...i meditate and muck around with tai chi and stuff, but fire has helped me sort myself out in my own head...it is my meditation, my zen time, my lifestyle and my connection to everything around me, when you've got a staff and its burning..and its flashing past your eyes and you can see it and feel it, hear it and know that you've got control...that for me its zen...pure and simple... some people might think i'm over romanticizing it a little, some people think i'm a tosser and others will know what i'm talking about...

aaaargh... i've been avoiding this topic cause i could spend hours here, and i've been trying to find old threads where i used to talk about nothing other than how sacred fire is, and how my "native american" beliefs are tied in with fire dancing. but i couldn't find any of them, so, fuggit, i'll just say this... synopsis... fire is super super sacred and special, and powerful, if you want it to be. it has changed my life. i was a fireman and was doing spiritual sculpture and performing with fire long before i became a pro fire dancer. fire when harnessed and respected as pure spirit will teach you many wonderful things. typing any more right now would be frustrating, i used to rant on and on about this, and now i can't find any of it! ubblol wave

Spinning is quite a serious thing for me, I find myself drawing principles from my pursuit of it, things like : keep trying, explore, patience, refinement. I dont know wether thats a spiritual thing or not but it does improve my life somewhat... i think confused

I dunno, youd be better asking me mum biggrin

Fire calms me. Theres something about it's untamed beauty that just gets to me. I've been a pyro all my life, and so this was just naturally the next step. It's almost a spiritual thing, but it's not, at the same time. Spinning is by far the coolest thing I have ever done!

Fire is teh R0x0rZ...

^.^'
I love trying new things, and when I hit something I like, I take it and start expanding.
Take martial arts. I hopped from art to art for years before I found one I liked, now that I found one, I'm 2nd best in my country (according to the last national tournament in sept/oct).
I plan to take up spinning, fire or glow, and just expand from there.
I might get a job at my local ren fest (other than the one I have right now) and start doing some fire stuff there...
might do alot of things with it.

As for back ground with fire, well...I've always been around it.
I've always lived in a house with a wood fire place and almost all winter long we'll have fires going in it, and naturally, I'm the only one in my family who can manage to make the fires work most of the time (some times they'll get it, but more often than not I have to do it). It's like everyone sees me, and when there is a fire about, they put me in charge of it. Example, last years halloween party, I was about 10 feet away from the fire, and there was people alot closer, but the mother of the girl who was hosting the party just looked around and saw me and was like "You're the one tending the fire right? Can you make sure it's out by midnight?" I was kind of freaked out because I was fairly far away and didn't know how or why she made that assumption ^.^'
and this is getting long so I'll stop now.
