I guess i was being a bit over the top saying "sacred" and "hideous".

Possibly the fact that they don't have to deal with being in a couple, helps?
Ultimately, being single has its stresses, and, equally, being in a couple has its stresses.
I think a big part of dealing with the stresses of either, is to endevour to make the most of whatever circumstances you happen to find yourself in.

That 'godawful feeling of lonelyness is yours, and yours alone. Not only will a f*ckbuddy not scratch the surface of it, it's highly likely that a committed relationship won't either.
And this is the true value of single-dom; it's an opportunity to build up a relationship with yourself and to acquire an understanding of yourself that will ensure you're not plagued by 'godawful feelings of lonliness' and, if the time comes when you meet somebody special, you'll be in a much better position to make a success of that relationship.

I think I have realised that actually I am not single. Writing up a thesis is like the worst relationship ever. . . .
It takes up all my time
It isn't fun
it stops me going out
my friends wonder what has happened to me
I miss HoP meets . . .
and i still don't get any of the benefits hugs etc....

Anyone else find it amusing that the country that started the language actually uses a word nicked from the French for the blanket-like bed covering that is stuffed with down or wool (or dead puppies, says my dad...anyone else wondering where my humour comes from??) while other English speaking countries have their own not French word for it?

3 months now, but before that it was 2 years. It kinda sucks really, cos all my mates are getting girlfriends or running out of money (oh to being a student). So I have no drinking budies :'( Oh well guess it just oges that way.
