Howdy yall!

Wish I had my old intro thread, but will have to make do with what I can.

Interests: Poi (OF COURSE!), dancing, playing the violin, swimming, listening to music...and the list goes on... wink

Occupation: Well as of right now I'm working till I get my bill paid off to the uni. I work at a local vet office as a kennel tech. I love it alot and get to work with animals. I am responsible for feeding/watering, medicating, bathing/dipping dogs and cats.

What I Want to be When I Grow Up I would like to see myself working at a zoo with different types of animals. I would love to be the person showing them to children and on tv shows.

Been spinning since October 2002

Been using fire since January 2003

Will continue to spin til whenever... biggrin

I hope to see some old friends and meet some new ones here! hug

Oh I'm happy today! I bought me another beta! He is so beautiful. He has bright red and bright blue in his fins, but the main thing I find interesting is the fact that most beta's faces are dark in color with not much coloring(as far as dark colored fish are), but the one I bought today has a lighter colored face with two red stripes on either side of his face. I've never seen that in any fish like that...ever!

If you didn't know by now I like to get the betas that are odd in color and hard to find. Don't know what I will name him. I have my other one still and he is blue green and his name is Touche`.
Ah well I will think on it while I'm at work.

Dio mentioned naming him Optimus Prime (Optimus for short), but I don't know about that. I may ask my mom. She used to buy alot of betas and each of them had a wonderful name. At one time we had over 30 betas all in their beta tanks! ubbloco

Got my comp working again. Luckily it just needed a new power supply. Dio helped me install it. He had to cut out a small square out of the back of my comp so the switch on the new power supply would fit properly. I just need to hook it back up tonight and I'm all good and happy!

Laterz yall! ubbrollsmile

Why?!!!!!?

I just don't get it. I'm fixing to say screw it and delete my OnlineDiary because everything keeps going wrong with it. Kinda like my life....

Well for starts, I couldn't find another higher paying job, so I told my boss that I really needed a raise. He was like "ok but heres the problem, I have to make it fair for the other techs (who btw are new; I've been there for a yr! that should be good enough for a raise right there), so I'm gonna have you do more vet tech stuff, pretty much alil more than what you already do. (ahem I already help up front, put files away pull files for the next day and fill out the necessary paperwork for surgery days. I clean what he asks me to clean. I help out alot! Today was pay day and I had asked him for a raise 2weeks ago..that was last payday. Anyways he said he would see what he could do. I told him my rent was going up and that was why i needed a raise. Well today I was filing and pulling files and filling out anesthesia forms for surgeries manana. He pulled Holly(the receptionist) aside and said for her to tell me that on slow days he wanted her to do the files and for me to clean the surgery room from top to bottom, and the lobby and the exam rooms. Here's the thing...He wanted somebody to help Holly up front with the files in the first place bc it was hard for her to do on top of what all she also had to do! I've been doing the file thing for about half a yr now. PLUS- the techs up front do all the cleaning and stuff when there are slow days. I clean in the kennels. If either needs help we ask each other. Now he wants me primarily to do it. I got so frustrated today at work that I started crying and couldn't stop. He had me so pissed off! Holly understood and was trying to cheer me up. Ever since I had asked him for a raise, he has asked me to help out with patients in the exam rooms, which I have done without a word. Cleaned what he wanted me to and not said one word about it. I was starting to do more vet tech stuff and so thought...Hmmm I'm guessing this is what he want's me to do and so he will give me a raise like we had discussed. Hell No! I got my check today and still no raise. I'm really ticked off and so frustrated! What more does he want me to do?! He never tells anybody that they are doing a good job or anything so therefore we don't know if we are cleaning like he wants or what. I've been trying my best ever since I've worked there to do a good job. I never start a task and stop..I always finish a task given to me and then go on to the next one. He is such a cheapass! I'm at my wits end and I'm about to really get pissed off if he doesn't give me a raise soon. The middle of august made one year of working there. I need more money. I'm barely making it by. I have exactly 4. 23 in my bank account and it has been that amount for 2weeks! I have loans I'm making payments on and pretty much living on my own. I don't ask my parents for money anymore, and the only thing they pay for is my truck and insurance. I don't know what to do. There aren't many jobs to get here in StillH20. I'm gonna lose it. I've already started to lose it. I'm getting more and more agitated at work. I do my job (the [censored] job) nobody else likes my job for some reason. I guess bc I'm the one who can handle cleaning up dog [censored] and cat [censored] and feeding/ medicating, bathing and dipping dogs, and sometimes cats as well. I have to put up with loud noisy barky dogs and evil cats and sometimes dogs also. He will complain about the dogs being noisy in the back and that just ticks me off even more because he isn't back there having to REALLY hear it! Plus it is so freaking hot and humid in the back that it makes me nauseated. He want's the temp kept at about 80 F. Take that and add in the washer and dryer going non stop, poor ventilation, the dog cage dryer, and the hot water for bathing and it's like a steam room!!!! God help me I'm trying real hard not to totally lose it and go postal on my boss.

You really need to approach the boss and explain whats going on... In saying that if you really hate your job so much you also need to actively look for another job while maintaining your current position. Other wise you are going to become depressed because you are obviously unhappy...
Look online and also in local papers EVERYDAY make this happen for you hunny

First off thank you all for your support/advice and especially the hug

I'm officially gonna look for another job while maintaning the one I already have. I found out that he has no intention what so ever of giving me a raise until...January! When one of the techs leaves for another job. The position I have now...I make alil more than the tech who's leaving! Why would I switch even if it is for a raise. It's not worth it $ wise. After I heard that...I've shut down. I feel so numb with emotions, that I'm neither sad or happy I'm just there. I'm depressed. I'm ok away from work, but whenever I go back I shut myself off from the world and I'm pretty much a drone. I figure I'll go back to my usual duties before I ever asked him for a raise. I feel like he's using me with promise of a raise, that will never really come, and him making me do all this special extra work. I just feel like nobody appreciates my job. And so take it for granted that I'm somebody important there.

I don't think I've ever been this depressed over anything in my entire life. I'm not suicidal or anywhere near that if yall are wondering. I KNOW that doesn't solve anything and only makes stuff worse for everyone. I just didn't think there was an emotion that was considered "a lack of emotion". I'm that one if it does exist. frown

I just got back from Victoria, TX visiting Dio's rents. We had fun! Got to visit NASA!!!! An awesome trip! So many interesting things to see and learn about. Got to also see the Gulf of Mexico too! That's the first time I've ever gotten to see an ocean! I don't think I would like to live that far south though. Mold is rampant down there and I'm kinda allergic to it, plus it is so humid and it was hard for me to breathe. Felt like I was slowly drowning. ubblol

Took some pics and might upload em onto here for others to see, but we'll see if I have time to or not.

Later yall!!!! hug ubblove

Thanks Ade!

You ain't missing much when it comes to seeing a desert..

Just imagine the ocean only take out the water and just have sand and for miles and miles that's all you will see. Or some mountains! LOL!

Just got too see my mom and one of my bros this morning. They drove up to pick up a dog we had at work that we were trying to find a home for. It's a beautiful 3 year old American Bulldog. He is solid white and is friendly. The owners couldn't keep him because they just had a baby and the dog is jealous of it. If we didn't find a home for him he was gonna have to be put down because our shelters are so full that they are refusing anymore dogs or cats. And animal control will only hold onto an animal for 3 days and then put it down if it wasn't lucky enough to find a home. It's really sad. It would really help if people got their pet spayed or neutered. There are agencies that will help people out financially if only the owners would check them out. Hopefully Mike will work out for my family, if not then they will work to find him a home down there.

Merry Christmas...and...Happy New Year yall!!!!

So far so good on the vet tech position. I'm still working at the same clinic, but this will look good on my resume if I ever choose to do something different later on down the road.

One thing the other girls are saying is that they wished the new kennel tech would do as good of a job as I did when I was working as the kennel tech.

Beginings of a rant:
Ok the new guy is nice and shy, but I don't think he realizes just how clean it has to be in the kennels! He used to work at the humane society here in town where they have limited help and necessities like cleaning solutions. They also have an over-abundance of animals in the shelter.

Well my boss the vet hired the new guy to take my old position over, even though at the time I was content at where I was and loved my job with the animals. Anyways the boss is kind of sexist in my mind because the new guy has let ALOT of stuff in the back go to the way side. It is filthy in the back! There is water on the floors and one of the other techs that works on the weekends found cat feces under the cage dryer and there is hair all over the floor and is wet. It's like he didn't sweep before he mopped the kennels. They smell bad and he leaves candy wrappers on the floor instead of throwing them in the trash! C'mon! We have animals that board that will practically anything that is lying on the floor, plus our kennel cat Fern has her fascinations with licking on plastic bags or packaging. She or any other animal could easily eat the small jolly rancher packages and choke on them.

But the main thing I'm complaining about is that if I was to EVER let the kennels get that dirty I would be chewed out alot! But me and the other girls think it's because the new guy is well..a guy, so therefore he gets different treatment. But every new employee has there honeymoon period and then the real [censored] starts, but we think the newbie's will last a lot longer than normal just due to the fact of him being a guy.

One more lil thing also I'd like to add is that whenever the boss told me to not be doing the filing stuff anymore and to go clean something, even when I was suppose to be learning vet tech work or that he just didn't want me around to learn at the moment in time, I did it even though I was alil offended. What has made me all the more mad is that he is having the newbie learn vet tech work also and to be doing pretty much all the I was doing before I was ever considered for vet tech work! He even gets more hours than I was given! I remember the vet telling me that he couldn't give me anymore hours than what I was already given because of the kennels not taking as long to get done with. My kennel hours were 730am-930am then come back in the afternoon at 4pm-6pm or 7pm! Newbie gets 730am-1pm and then 3pm-6 or7pm! It does not take that long to do kennels! I was never allowed that option! He has newbie learning the vet tech stuff that I'm still currently learning to do! Grr it just ticks me off. But I've pretty much said to hell with the feelings toward the kennel tech job bc I'm actually enjoying the vet tech one. The reason I guess I wasn't allowed more hours is because when kennels are done there is usually nothing else to be done up front either so no reason for an extra person. Newbie will come up front and stand around and do nothing. We find stuff to do and find stuff for him to do but he is not needed. Oh well maybe things will change alil later on after his honeymoon period is over.

Later yall I gotta run to WalMart for some groceries. wink

Is a veterinary technician equivalent to a veterinary nurse over here in the UK? If it is, then do you have anything like our option of a NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) in Veterinary Nursing. The basic principle is that you study part time with the support from your employer to gain recognised qualifications. I think there is also another option where you can study for a degree whilst gaining valuable experience.

Down side to the scheme is that you have to work at a recognised training centre, and they are few and far between with much competition for the places.

Anyway, obviously it sounds like you're in the right job - I mean the animal work (I work with animals too, it takes a certain mentality to wade through puppy diarrohea at 7am in the morning). I second the earlier opinion that if the boss is being a nimjit then look for work at a different practice.

Erm, yeah, I'll shut up now smile

Puk I think you did a fine job on the Texan accent...Yall! ubblol

Sir_Sheep: Yes there is a CVT (certified veterinary technician) courses offered here in the States, but they are kind of hard to find as well. There are some offered online, but I don't really trust the online courses you can do at home. Vet Techs I do believe are the same as Vet Nurses. If they assist the Vet in appointments, prescription filling, surgery, and all around being an assistant than I believe they are both the same.

I have thought of becoming certified, but I need extra money to do so and my boss being the crap head that he is...won't help out very much. I FINALLY got the raise that I was promised. Instead of getting $6.50/hr, I now get $7.00/hr. It isn't much but hey it is a raise. My lil honeymoon period is about to come to an end here very soon and then I will have to prepare myself for the unnecessary yelling and attitude from him. I just need to toughen up and hang in there for a bit until I find something better to do. I had thought of working at another vet clinic, but since it's a college town with a huge vet school here I figure most of the vets here will have about the same attitude towards their employees like I'm getting from my employer. Vet tech will stand out better on my resume than Kennel tech later on down the line. I am learning more and everybody has commented that I'm turning out to be a great vet tech, that I just needed to have some confidence in myself and to not always question my self esteem when it comes to acconplishing tasks that are new to me and kinda scare me.

I DO NOT LIKE CHANGE...I'M AFRAID OF THE FUTURE AT TIMES...like with new jobs until I get acclamated to them and can show myself that "Hey this isn't as hard as I believed it to be. Hey! I can actually do this"

hug Thanks yall hug

Oh my parents got yet another dog a few days ago...This makes 6 dogs total! Not including my 9 cats also! OMG that is alot of animals, but we have the room for them so what the heck and we can take care of them properly.

My mom saw him at the shelter in my hometown when she had taken our other pit bull mix to get spayed. He is a German Shepherd. He is only 10 months old and is bigger than our American Bulldog named Mikey!!!! He is HUGE!!!! He is doing great at home! He doesn't bother the cats and the dogs either! He knows some obedience training and is very sweet! He is solid black except he is starting to get some silver coloring on his legs. I am fixing to get ready to start looking for another apartment, one where I can have my two cats (Salem and Sabrina) at least and maybe be able to have my dog Molly (Catahoula Leopard Dog/ Australian Shepherd Mix) with me. I am also interested in the new Shepherd they have too. His name is Barron Meisha. He was dropped off and put up for adoption by his family because they had a baby and couldn't keep him.

I want my cats and Molly, but eventually I want the same type/size/color as Meisha. I love the German bloodline of German Shepherds better than the American bloodlines of the same breed.

Anyways I'm gonna go eat now! Sausage Gumbo!!!!! ubbrollsmile
