There's quite a diversity of both chain and wick lengths her in New York and even more so around the world.

Get a ruler and whip yours out and let me know how long it is.

I usually spin "short" chains (by New York standards) at 16" from knuckle to the bottom of the wick with very small (by New York standards) wicks at only 2-3" wicks. I just got some more ball chain in the mail and would like to start playing with longer lengths so I can do more thru-wraps and such. I just made a 32" possibility but I'll probably consider my new 22" long enough for me.

So to recap...

NYC spins:
16" from knuckle to wick bottom (41 cm)
3" high cathedral wicks (8 cm) made from 2" kevlar
{Note 1" = 2.54 cm}

I know my buddy Skunk will represent the other extreme (if he sees this post)... He's big and long.

How long and big are all of yours?

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

Mine are 24in long and I have 3in tall wicks that are 2in in diamiter. This is my ideal length. I can bust out all my moves on this length. there not to short and not to long. I feel the length you yous depends graitly on your hight.

My chain is 28 inches with 2.5 inch tall x 2.5 inch wide cathedrals.

I usually wrap the chain around my hand once for added grip and buzzsaw moves, but I can also do buzzsaw moves badly without wrapping chains around hand.

Kinudin:
28 inches
2.5''x2.5'' wicks
Chain wrapped once around hand usually.

ok somebody already asked on my video thread so i got approximate measurements. i kinda have to estimate cause i don't have measuring tape handy, but since i am exactly 6' tall and the chains put together reach about 2 or 3 inches over my head, i would say i have about 36-37" per chain (1 meter) including wick. the wicks themselves are about 7" long cathedral folded from about 13-14' of kevlar.

skunk
~37" chain (~1 meter wicks inclusive)
~7" wicks (~19cm)
error margin +/- 1 inch (2.54cm)

well i normally go for medium build, but i'm open to experimentation. Personality and all that.

oh, silly me, i thought this was the plumpers lovers message board again...

Tonight Flid will be modelling the following poi:

3"x3"x2" cathedral heads with 23" link chains

2.5" tube core heads with 21" wire

9" LED Tubes with 20" ball chain

Dunno what my tailed ones are, never use em. Nasty things.

Dunno, I used to like long chains, but I'm getting back into short right now.

Regular set I use

chain - 16"
cathedral wix - 3"

good post NYC! i'm always interested in details like this. what wick styles are y'all using?

right now: ~5" cathedrals (cable w/integrated quick link) on ~19" chain with ~3" finger harness. so ~"27 knuckle to end of wicks. thats average/longish for around here. as of this very moment i added another 18" , so the total length is around 45". very interesting! to weave i have to keep my arms up around my chest. it's another dimension... now if it was only a little drier i'd put the stilts on....

for wicks i've tried cathedrals (eyebolt), cathedrals (cable w/ring), cathedrals (cable w/integrated quicklink), rolled kevlar with two bolts (classic), cotton roll w/wire. by far my favorite is the cathedrals with integrated quicklink.

peace

any chance of some metric numbers here?

C'mon, just times all the inches by 2.54...

Times it by two then add a half more...

So 22 inches would be about 44 + 11 cm = 55 cm.

Farenheit to Celsius... now that's annoying.

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

Don't know the exact length, but I'd guess they're about 2-2.5 feet long (happen to be from fingertip to armpit). They dangle from my fingers to about an inch from the ground so that while I am standing up I can spin with my hands at any elevation.

My chains are so long that I can barely keep from hitting myself when I do the buzsaw (even though I always wrap them around my hands for that move (except for the hyperloop version that is). My wicks are the 3 inch tubes that malcolm sells. I like small wicks becase they feel the same as my tenns ball poi. I like to use thick twist link dog chain (third from the smallest size At wal-mart)

for full trick vocabulary i find that total overall length should be from grip to about 2 inches from the chest with arms pointed straight out just to allow for clearance when working close to your body. my over all length is 20-22inches wick length is just a matter of adapting to different weight but any one fluent should be able to adapt to anything right?

The rest of them are all lengths. (usually a little smaller than above.)

Don't know about exact length but I measure my poi ends to be about an inch off the ground when I leave my arms flop straight down. I'm using six feet of 4" wide kevlar on each poi. Goodness gracious, great balls off fire!! I'm thinking of going to ten feet each but I gotta make stronger poi first. oh, and stronger arms.

I'm going straight to hell.
Better practice my fire show.

No silly...

Inches ==> Centimeters
You MULTIPLY by 2.54

Centimeters ==> Inches
You DIVIDE by 2.54

I hope that Rozi's staves aren't 138 inches!!!That is really using 12 foot (4 meter!) staves!!!

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

My sock poi are usually around 12" long, and my tails and fire poi a touch longer. I have been experimenting with using the full length of my sock poi though which is something like four and a half foot long. The length of my sets vary a litle depending on what's on the ends; tennis balls, cathedrals or beamers.

From grips to chain ends, my short set are 20"/51cm & my long ones are 44"/113cm.

Both sets are built in proportion to my height (5'10"/178cm) & arm length. Short ones just clear my body when spinning towards it. The long ones almost touch the ground when I have my arms straight out to the sides. They are a little limiting movement wise, but rather spectacular!

Wow and here i was thinkin my poi were medium size.. :-D

My fire chains are about 30 inches long, with 4 x 4 x 5 or so wicks on the ends ( 6 feet of 4" kevlar.. )
i use the same chains for my glowstix and day-poi, which are just long ehough for me to go inside when i wrap them around my hand twice.
so yeah
i did not know most people's chains were that short!
