It's not new - Feeding The Fish https://www.feedingthefish.com/
have been performing around the world with their hand made 'pixel poi' for years. I've seen a few other hand made props that use this idea too.
It is still very cool though

I think,green and white are brightest for led, same as all other leds

i have the yellow red version
but they suck in all ways
- construction is not very durable actually i will be surprised if it survifes one hit against the other "poi"
- lights are not bright and only on one side so you will only see it partly of a full spin circle
i guess its better for all to wait some more time till something good will come out
