So I put this in the social chat, figure it probably falls under the category of daftness laugh3

Anyway, I'm about to have a little adventure. I'm quitting my job, selling all my stuff, and going to Guatemala.
I've already put in my notice at work, been packing and selling some stuff. Driving to Oregon first to give my truck to my sister, then flying out from there.
I'll be leaving with nothing but a passport, plane ticket, poi bag, and a change of clothes. Most likely after everything is paid for I'll have a few hundred dollars in my pocket. Best part is, I have absolutely no plans to come back grin
I'm going to go with nothing and make it work.

I've thoroughly weighed the pros and cons of this adventure. I'm going.
Anybody that wants to keep up with this craziness. I'll try and post here occasionally, but Facebook is going to be the best way.

Going to Texas this Friday though and won't have Internet there. I'll check in from time to time and post pictures when I can, or find me on Facebook /jaredwoods

*edit* My bad I thought you said Hillsboro for some reason. I had no idea you meant Aaron and Marsha's new club/warehouse in Tulsa! Now I feel bad!

Made it safely to San Pedro La Laguna.
Public transportation here is definitely an interesting experience. The bus was supposed to go from one hotel to another, instead the driver made a detour about 45 minutes into the 3 hour trip, stopped the bus, and said he would be back in two hours. Two hours later he came back and told me he had to go back to Guatemala City now, but there was another bus coming through town, it was just running late so I have to wait a while longer.
The second bus went all the way to San Pedro, but the trip down the mountain is intense. Switchbacks, cliffs, and mudslide debris that makes the Rocky Mountains look like a Sunday drive.
Then when we finally got here, they just dumped me out in the middle of town laugh3 So me and Connor rode a tuc-tuc to the hotel, or at least as close as possible.

It's about 100 yards down a little footpath to the hotel, which is on the very edge of the rocks overlooking the lake. Maybe 5 feet between the hotel and the water. Beautiful place, I'm going up to the hot tub on the roof now, then maybe go see what the night life is like around here. I hear music coming from the central park, maybe I'll go check it out.

I could, but there's going to be a ton of them and I don't want to sit here all day posting the same pictures to more than one place laugh3

I'll still put a few of them up here, just not every one of them.

No, bicycle.
There´s not much for replacement parts around here, so you have to go to Chichi for any decents parts or work. And the only rental place around for the tourists has like 2 bikes and charges by the hour.
I´m going to buy, sell, and rent by the day so they can be taken on trips up the volcano or around the lake.

Found a house to rent today. $100 a month for a one bedroom near the beach. Two balconies on either side, one overlooking the lake. Bananos, limes, lemons, and various vegetables growing in the yard.
Beautiful place, only drawback is there is no hot water, that´s fairly common here though.

Got another house to look at tomorrow, and looking for a steady job. Until then I´m just going to be doing whatever little jobs I can find.
I´ve met a jade carver down here and he´s willing to do custom work for me. If anyone wants pendants let me know. They´re made from jadeite, which is darker than chinese jade and has blues and purples in it as well. I´ve taken him a few pictures to him and he says he´s can make any sort of flower pattens, or send me a picture you like and I can have it made. I´ll see if I can have a few test pieces done tomorrow and get pictures. Cost will be around $20 + shipping.

Haven't checked in for a bit so figured I give a little update. Getting settled in and adjusting well. Cashed in my last dollar a while ago so now I'm living solely off whatever I can make here, which is about $10 a day laugh3 It's kinda strange at first, having no American money left and no ID.
Working in a Mayan cultural center, there's pictures and videos on Facebook of the first ceremony I attended, and tons of pictures from around the lake. I'll be uploaded some more ceremony stuff hopefully next week sometime.
And for anybody that wants to come, for a vacation or to live, please contact me on Facebook. I've jumped through all the hoops, and made all the mistakes. Now I've finally got it all figured out, ok so not all laugh3 But enough to make your trip easier and I'd be more than happy to tell you everything I know.
