Posted:OK, so I am currently making a new poi of fire poi to be sold, They are a rope weave poi with 8 loose ends at the top, usually i just tighten off these ends and cut them smooth. Due to an error in measurement, I have about one foot of rope left over on each end, creating something that looks like a squid. I could just cut the loose pieces off, or i could remake the pair for the customer, and see what squid fire poi look like, What do i do?

Posted:I would say make the customer a new pair and give the squids a go. Although, I think I would cut the 'tentacles' a bit shorter and somehow tie off the ends so they dont fray and fall appart.

Posted:i've had a set in the past that turned out like you describe, I just burned them, the loose ends deteriorated very quickly and i ended up removing them before they became a 'flying off' hazard, not much to say about them really, no major plus points to mention smirk

Posted:@sod, big fire but unfortunatly it doesn't even last as long as that, the fuel in the trailing ends burns off in no time at all (20s or so) so they just end up hanging lifeless and smouldering in the heat, also they interfere with weight distribution so isolations & such become awkward smirk
overall a big thumbs down.

Posted:Makes me think of a "Hydra" like fire poi. Like fire snakes but with 3 or so lengths. Would be interesting but as I think and type this I don't think stalls would be that great. Like grabbing 3 different poi in each hand and spinning them all. Random thought tongue2

Posted:Sounds like a bit of tweaking might work into an interssting toy.

How about knotting the ends (to prevtn fraying) and then soaking the wholoe knot in PVA glue. After a day drying the knots will be hardened so there should be no fraying at all.

Also, it would seem the fuel is also leaking out from the tentacles when being spun, the PVA knots will less than to quite a noticable degree.

Sounds like a thirsty set of squid poi though, how much fuel do they soak up per dunk?
