try using the search function next time, and if you have a question that you cant find the answer for by searching, post it in the " help" section of the boards, they're there to ask questions in after all.

Posted: Here is a nice thread about the right fuel to use. [Old link] As for the long tails, i assume you are talking about the ones you see in pictures? Those are made when the shutter speed is adjusted. You can make the film exposed for certain amounts of time. When its exposed for awhile, it picks up the paths of the fire. Here is another article on fuels. https://www.homeofpoi.com/articles/WhichFuel.php And a quick note, Paraffin and Kerosene are the same things, paraffin is the name commonly known in the UK, and Kerosene is what it is called in the USA. Hope that helped out

Some other tips for using this forum, apart from searching first (because a lot of what you ask is here already..eg follow MrMajestik's *sigh*).
State clearly in the title what the thread is about. That helps the search engine work well and in fact makes the whole site work. Otherwise it would just be a jumble. If you need to change something you've written, click' the
'edit' button at the top of your post. You can even change the title of a thread you have already started by editing the first post you made (it will still say the old name in some parts of the thread though).
You can click the exclamation mark at the bottom of a post to ask the moderators to move a thread to the right place, delete it if you realise it is unnecessary or a duplicate of an existing thread. That is probably a good thing to do with this thread cos the material is covered so thoroughly elsewhere on the site.
Also you might want to state in your profile where you live. Quite often the answers to questions depend on what part of the world you are in.
Also the best way to learn about ANY of this is directly from people. So search for spinners in your area. And IF you state where you are, others can find you. Not in a creepy way
Cheers
