Posted:Hello, hello and welcome to the all-new, shiny thread for fire dancers, spinners, object manipulators, drummers, musicians and anyone else interested in these arts anywhere in Ireland.

Our community started coming together a few years ago, and it's grown to include people from all over the country...

If you are new to poi or staff or spinning stuff and want to meet up with any of the Irish spinners, please post in this thread, introduce yourself and feel free to come along to the workshops, gatherings or events that get talked about.

Also, if you'd like to be on my mailing list for fire gatherings and other juggling events, please PM me your email address and I'll add it. The fire gathering takes place fortnightly in Belfast, but it's one way to keep in touch with everyone.

So welcome, and hope to see you soon wave

I'm going to hi-jack this thread for a bit. St Lukes Hospital, Rathgar, which specialises in cancer care, is due to be closed (thank you Mary Harney mad2). It is the top rated hospital in Ireland - as rated by patients and relatives on www.irishhealth.com . It is unusual in that it combines not only providing specialised cancer care - including some treatments which are not currently available anywhere else in Dublin or even Leinster, but it also takes a holistic and patient centred approach, including using diet, massage etc to compliment other treatments.

It is also very personal to me, as my mother spent a lot of time there, eventually dying there almost 4 years ago ubbcrying. After a 15 year battle, she had spent time in a lot of hospitals, and believe me, this one was in a different class from the others.

Please help by signing the online petition here: here , or by joining the public protest on Saturday - details here

Posted:Yeah our Government really is getting away with a ridiculous amount of stuff, (Tara, Health Services etc) but I suppose why wouldn't they think it's ok to do that when the Irish People keep voting them in. Crazy

Posted:I can't make it on Saturday, but I've had to go through Luke's twice with family members and more times with friends. It is one of the few hospitals that is actually fulfilling it's function and truly caring for the patient. Closing it, or even reducing it's scope of care, would be a travesty, as I think that everyone could agree that it is already a centre of excellence in cancer care in Ireland.
