Posted:The only reason I had cared to post was to show my point of view.
FireTom, do you honestly think I will screw up my life? I have so many blessings in this world, I have a loving sister, a caring mother, an inspiration to my work, the most beautiful angel I have ever seen. I understand what I had posted about affecting the minds of the young. But if you had cared to read the second sentence, you'd put to mind that you would have to have a firm grip on your understandings.
I try to learn all I can from people, whether it is stupid concepts, or a very bright idea. The world is not just seen through one pair of eyes, but a wide variety of them. This movie shows life in a darker meaning. All and all, it should be comprehendable that this movie is also exclaiming to not take a life for granted.
Yes, I know I am exceptionally young for such a grotesque and gruesome cinematic films. Yet, you must understand, I do not gain pleasure from this, I gain knowledge. This is not my only source of understanding, because ofcourse, a movie takes the time to unwind and untangle all of the knots that were given in the climax.
Thus, my feelings towards the movie is not to corrupt my mind, I know what I am watching, I understand the gore and blood, but it is the main subject. If you look beyond all of the smaller details that are just used to enhance the length of the film, you will see the subject. You cannot just see a movie as a movie, they each serve a purpose, whether hidden or exposed. It is up to our minds whether the way we interprit this movie as negative or positive. And it is this subject that everyone can relate to, everyone has their opinion upon life. And it must me understood - the subject about life, and how much people take it for granted. How such an adequate, and phenominal gift is handed to us, and how to treat it. I can't say I know much about life, but I do know my fair share of life, and I believe that I have a tolerable grip on mine.

I thank you, FireTom

*hug*

Thats a bit of an odd statemant..

If you say that then what is the point in watching any movie?

A horror movie is exactly the same as any other movie, execpt the genre is different.

Thank you, Aimee and Rave for this perspective - I haven't seen it from that angle.

@Aimee: you really believe that it's only the genre that makes the difference? How about all those censored minds who get high on XXX-movies and then go to the local park, where you have to pass after sunset? Sorry, but I had to bring this up. hug

@raverepresent: I did read your second sentence, though I didn't refer to it wink

When you walk into the theatre you know exactly "this is going to be fiction!" But - as far as my assumption goes (at this time I can't back it up with rocksolid evidence) - your mind doesn't clearly destinct between what it has seen (in a movie) and what it has experienced (even though the imprint left is clearly deeper).

There is a line that remains in my head (because I have verified it myself): "Why are we in a rush to grow up and then long to be children again?" (interview with god)

If you'd had to see some of that in real life, you'd most likely be scared to hell and need years of psychotherapy to be able to deal with it. But in this case you can desensitize yourself from the safety of your armchair.

I have no doubt that there are teens, who can take it ("easy ") and some who don't. You do have a strong family background (I assume), but what about those who don't? And what if something would radically change with yours?

Would you think that it's possible that ppl get so much involved in what they see on the screen that they have the urge/ desire to repeat that in real life?

If you want to truely learn how precious life is and no tto take this gift for granted, why don't you volunteer in a home for disabled, or retired? Why don't you volunteer, or visit the emergency room at the next metropolitan area? I bet you'll come across some pretty disturbing scenes/ images, involving accidents and violence, blood and bones.

I'm certain that this would have a much deeper impact, than the celluloid Hollywood images - take your iPod if you need the scary background music... wink hug

It's funny, how much drag the "bad, evil and dirty" has - as opposing to the opposite. I have a theory about why, but my post gained length already... and I would appear as "pedantically trying to be right on pretty much every subject I am argueing on" wink

Not even halfway.

But I clearly remember how those Columbine High School shooters (amongst other shooters) were allegedly great splatter movie fans and how this guy (who kidnapped a 14 year old and repeatedly raped her about 100 times within 36 days) MADE her watch explicit movies (from his collection) and forced her performing what was on screen.

I haven't made done research, yet, but "the mind [possibly] doesn't clearly destinct what it really experienced and what it has seen on screen".... Imagine, if this were to be true fact...

Indeed, the Columbine shooters allegedly also trained by playing Doom beforehand.

Why then, are there so many people who played Doom or who watch splatter movies who don't pay a visit to a school and gun people down?

Maybe it's not the films or games making people do these things, but they're an easy scapegoat.

We studied this when I did my sociology A level back when I was in college and I remember there being research conducted which suggested that violent films and violent games do influence people.
I think they probably just influence people with perhaps a mental disposition to violence.

How many people in the world have watched/played them?

Movies and video games do not create murderers or psychopaths, you have to be predisposed to that kind of violence else every single person in the world who had ever watched a few slasher movies or played Doom would be just like the Columbine kids and they're not.

You aren't really giving people much credit, the vast majority of people know the difference between reality and fiction but there are of course those few that don't and nobody can do anything about them. Censoring the media to the extent that nothing violent ever comes on tv or the internet or in film would mean an economic disaster and would do nothing. People can still watch the news.

I find these movies very informative, but the process of persuassion is very up-foward and frank. Movies of the such can very much so destroy the minds of little children.

Informative? About what? A few facts that Hollywood seems to ignore:
1) An adult human body only has about 5 liters of blood in it.
2) Blood clots rapidly when it is not inside a blood vessel and when it is not circulating. It does not drip through ceilings or anything else you see in movies because it will clot almost instantly on exposure to air.
3) A dead body does not bleed. Bleeding requires circulation. In fact, within about 15-20 minutes of death, all the blood in the body clots.
4) A human body is a very tough structure. A cubic centimeter of cortical (solid) bone is four times stronger than a cubic centimeter of concrete.

Now, what does this movie teach of any value? NOTHING.

That doesn't make it worthless, but let's not overblow what it is: it's entertainment. Some people like to be scared. I personally prefer to be amused.

No single movie can ruin a mind and no horror movie was ever anything more than superficially educational.

Posted:I respect you, Doc, but I have to disagree with you... Strongly disagree.

The main idea of this movie isn't to educate you on dead bodies, or to enhance the knowledge of death. It is to inform us about life. If you honestly think this movie was to educate our knowledge of dead bodies, I believe you should watch this movie once more.

It is the subject that gives off the details and and minor problems. The subject being life, the minor details and problems being the death brought to the individuals (or, in another sense, the games played to survive).

I just highly doubt that Darren Lynn Bousman, the director and writer, had the intentions to explain about dead bodies, rather than life itself.

And with the "No single movie can ruin a mind and no horror movie was ever anything more than superficially educational." statement, I must say, I disagree with that too. It is a fact that one can gain phobias through childhood memories or experiences. Movies do have a major impact to your brain, young or old (in my opinion, I'd say majority of the affect goes to the younger group).

Anyways, take care all!

Now porn is a totally differant matter.

Those men that sometimes like to try and touch and kiss me late at night...I give them the benefit of the doubt, as most of them are foreign (thinking they can get away with in a differant country) or either very drunk (loosing inhabitions). I forgive them for that.
I don't believe porn films are the reason most men have this attitude towards women.

In some cases, yes they do, but in my situation - as you specificly brought it up, I don't think its the cause.

So I'm trying to sum this up...

Horror films and video games have ratings. They have ratings for a reason.

When I was much younger I watched 'Mars Attacks'. For weeks afterwards I always switched the standby off my tele at night as I thought it was one of the lazers from the aliens guns.
If I watched that movie now it would do nothing but make me laugh.

99% of adults are able to watch these films and process the images they recieve into nothing but a memory of a good/bad/god damned awful hour and a half of film.

The other 1% obviously have..issues? And the movie/videogame was a trigger for something already there, that had previously been in their minds laying dormant.

Hope this makes sense, I'm extremely hungover ubblol rolleyes
