I started this account years ago and forgot it existed, but I decided to be a little more active from now on.

Here's a little about myself

Name: Matt

Occupation: Engineering Student

Location: Oxford (usually)

Hometown: London

DOB: 27/02/84

Age: 22

Sex: Male

Toys: Devilsticks, juggling balls and Multi-footbag (It's going to be the next diabolo...just you wait)

Hobbies other than the obvious: Go...it's a game- check out the thread on it that almost nobody posts on other than me in the other toys section.

Not a very literary person (much to my mothers disappointment) or very into music. I never go to watch live music. I have strong opinions on things though. I subscribe to the economist and Scientific American and I read those much more than I read books.

Atheist through and through and a subscriber to right wing free-market economics and liberal social policies (meaning that the state should stay out as much as possible and let people do what they want).

Books (if you insist)

the Selfish gene by Richard Dawkins(His best book, his condascending attitude is barely noticable, the material is really good and he refrains from going on any tiresome anti-religon crusades till the end)

the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - great stuff...though it goes up and down and definitely tails off towards the end of the "trilogy". The third book isn't great and the fourth is really pretty poor.

Lessons in the Fundamentals of Go by Kageyama

The best go book published in English. The book gives a really thorough overview of the game and illustrates the key concepts in a very clear way. Kageyama is a fantastic teacher, and is also (perhaps unintentionaly) very funny. He is harsh in the Japanese style, and slates every mistake with lines like "The man who would play like this should not be allowed to play Go". A sound grasp of the fundamentals is really all that is required to succeed in Go, so much so that I met a 3 Dan who'd read this book 7 times. I'd re-read it myself only I keep lending it to people.

oh and it just has to be Marmite

My state of mind is not yours to define!

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

greets, may I suggest changing your nick to something meaningful to yourself somehow ? smile

I think it's sad to think of people identifying you with something meaningless like that..

Hikaru maybe? wink

So, are you in Bristol now?

Questions to answer

I have changed my name as Per your suggestion, though I think myself and 87wt2gxq7 would take issue with the idea thats it's sad if people identify you with something meaningless. You make your name mean something, a character, yourself. Without a person behind it any name is meaningless.

I am indeed matt that you met at Alex's on NYE. I'm Sandy's housemate (and Tim and pink...? albeit temporarily). Sandy mentioned you as a Birmingham person.

I'm just sorry that our meeting was so brief.

I am indeed in Bristol, though not for much longer. I leave this weekend. I'll be doing footbag today at juggling in Horfield if you're there.
