So-- whats the best most valuable, funnest thing you've ever rescued out of a skip?
Should we star up a worldwide "skipwatch"?
Am I a complete packrat / scrounger / hopeless case?

But at the tip I scored a tennis racket with the strings cut out. Which may seem a ridiculous thing to have or even consider worth getting, but when you're a contortionist looking for things to squeeze through a tennis racket can come in handy.... ubbloco

Posted:Things I've taken from skips in the last month or so....

-Pretty much all the food I've eaten.

-Washing machine, used the drum for a v.tasty fire bin, and my friend used the motor in a bike powered generator.

-Decent hard drives and other computer stuff.

-Bike frame and enough parts to make a better bike than you could buy for 200.

-Metal poles for fire staffs.

-Samurai sword. biggrin

-Classy pram with chrome wheel arches which I've halfway turned into a bike trailer.

-Easter eggs!

-Assorted furniture and other smaller items.

The only problem I've had with being a bin rat is finding a crowbar and other tools someone had dumped. Then being stopped by the cops, who wanted to look in my rucksack.... They called it "going equipped" for burglary. I was released without charge, but a night in the cells is not a fun place to be.

Skipdiving rocks! It's the urban equivalent of living off the land.

Posted:If the police have reasonable grounds for suspicion ( ie. don't like the look of you), then they can stop and search you. It was dark when they picked me up, but I guess I just looked like a criminal to them.

And since walking around with tools on your person is a crime, and carries a potential six month sentence, I was taken to the station. It took them till morning before they got round to interviewing me, when luckily I managed to persuade them that I wasn't a burglar.

I was released without charge, but they get to keep my fingerprints, DNA, and photo. I got to keep the tracksuit bottoms they gave me though, apparently it's cheaper for them to buy new ones than it is to get them laundered. ubblol

old washing machine drums make perfect fire bins, i've seen them at partys loads. all you need to do is put it on some bricks and you can put stuff under it to cook like spuds in foil ect.
