There are a ton of amazing spinners on this site though none of us are at all perfect. I was wondering what moves, patterns, and concepts we all may have neglected or skipped while learning new things. Down the road the most seemingly pointless move can come back and bite you on the butt while trying to learn something more complex. Here are a few from me.

clockwise same direction airwraps ( which is weird cause I do all sorts of stuff with airwraps and hyperloops)
rev btb bf
most of the throws I do with my right hand I can't do with my left

About a month ago while making a combo up I realized I couldn't do a wall plane rev 5 bt weave from back to front on my right side or the same from front to back on my left. This was something I should know how to do in my sleep. You can say I fixed that lil glitch immediately redface

If your new to poi spinning this is a good reminder of why it's best to learn all your moves in all directions and in all the different planes you can. smile

My forward BTB weave sucks. As do my BTB butterflies, which is odd because my BTB butterfly WW is fine.

Horizontal stuff I don't bother with.

BTB WWs took we an absolute age to learn, and I'm still not totally clean with them. 4 bt windmill I've never got, nor do I want to, and turning windmills is something you don't see much.

I've been working on my btb 3bt weave turning, hoping to build toward btb5bt turning without any probs.

Nice thread smile

Corkscrew, the hard way. I never really cared about doing this, since i figured whenever I wanted to cork, I'd just do it the easy way, but now I'm working with horizontal under the arm separated antispin pirouettes ( Yuta inspired ) I find i need it. After watching Khan's video, I also want a horiz spiral wrap too.

FWD BTB BF....never bothered with it, and it's somtimes embarrassing when I teach it

FWD BTB weave...dunno, I figured torturing myself learning REV was enough.

Carryovers..little censoreds, love them, but can't do them to save my life, and it's not for lack of trying.

BF handwraps, I've been doing them in REV BF for quite a while, but I just got them FWD last month. I needed these for same time wallplane pendulums--> handwraps.

4BT windmill in split time, I can only sorta do this in one direction.

Giant windmill pirouettes, the hard way..

And probably a whole host of others I'll discover while spinning and thinking about this today.

Heheh, I've found most people don't do windmills the hard way; 4bt windmills are a right pain as well, I can do them, but only if I concentrate on doing them properly. They're definitely not a priority!

Wow, great thread!

I'm sure theres loads of stuff that I've only learnt one way.

Thread the needle springs to mind, I can do it forwards, but not reverse!

I'm very one-handed with throws, I need to work on that.

I'm sure there must be more but its been a long day!

Things I skipped, realized I needed / wanted, and fixed:

BTB forward butterfly - wanted it for wastewraps
Wastewraps (duh smile )
Butterfly variations (TTN opened up so much)
Isolations (Finally! Finally! Yay!!!)
Propper forward hyperloops (skipped straight to outside-inside-outside-inside-outside somehow... I attribute it to plane correction) - which led to:
Plane control (talk about basics... a never ending battle)

Things I still havn't learned:

Bloody long arm stuff
Anti-spin flowers
Forward BTB weave - back of head started hurting smile
Butterfly air wraps
Counter-clockwise airwraps (i'll show you clockwise all day if you show me counter-clockwise Rovo smile ) - workin on it
A lot of between the legs stuff
Thru-wraps
Suicides and whip catches (again, workin on it)

===

Ah I remember back in the day when I only swung a staff around and things were so simple... Poi have made life so much more complicated smile.

i've filled in most of the gaps over the years but i still completely suck at same direction reels rolleyes

i think swinging clubs for a couple of weeks will fix this smile

moves i can do but are still so sketchy i never use them are:

clockwise windmills
4bt windmills
anticlockwise airwraps
rev-rev flowers
two of the btb ww's (fwd on left bottom carry and the one that links with that when you turn 180)

stuff i can't do that i should be able to by now but can't:
fwdarms-revpoi flowers
rev antispin weave
4bt btb ww's and 5bt btb weaves
'proper' btb bf ww's

ive got few fairly big gaps:

i cant keep my backwards barrel rolls continuosly bareel rolling
behind the back butterfly waistwraps on my right side are welll sketchiliciuos.
backwards anti weave is sketchy aswell.
and just general freedom with my left arm is a bit [censored], although it is improving, i can nearly wibble with it now.

also with the butterfly or any same direction stuff...

You showed me a nice move you were practicing whilst I was down there... an airwrap stall which came out into butterfly, I believe...

As for horizontal stuff... I tend to leave that well alone as well...

Just starting to get my reverse antispin weave to work, thanks to Mr. Monkey...

I need to spend more time Spinning with Jon, so that I can steal his crossers and BTB powers from him... I also need to learn to use my left a bit more as well... and learn how to do just one waistwrap, so I can leave the others out wink

anti-spin anything (tho i'm getting into it).
flowers (getting into).
atomic anything (still skipping this one).
reels (these hate me).
pirouettes of any sort (i'm getting to 360s).

things i see missing constantly from others spinning:

counterclockwise corkscrew, turning left first evar, over the head butterfly turns / weaves of any sort (same as chutneys's, but rarer i think), any plane-breaking/time-breaking (go oli!), flipping the horizontal buzzsaw, buzzsaw handcuff wraps, ...

I dont do reverse reverse flowers, chase the sun in reverse 3bt or turning chase the sun on plane. I can barely turn the BTB forwards weave to my left to rev BTB weave, the extra butterfly beat with my left arm over my right arm, the full WW butterfly on left -BTB butterfly-WW butterfly on RT combo. Perfect rev isolations, 3 beat weave isolated.....

dont make peoples heads turn, give them whiplash.

I haven't missed any moves/transitions out yet, but I've only just started so I'm still on beginner stuff & I've been deliberately trying not to miss any out, cause I vastly prefer improvising to though out/practiced sequences and you have to be comfortable doing everthing the 'wrong' (unnatural) way to have creative freedom with turns etc.

Some things I've yet to learn to complete my current complement of 'moves'

4bt windmill clockwise
4bt inwards TTN (just needs cleaning really)
Rev 5bt weave (just needs cleaning)
Forward btb 3bt weave (only just learned rev so I'm givin it some time)

Gonna move onto the flower family & continue working on BTB stuff, I'm practicing leading everything with my left hand just because it feels wrong, hopefully it'll be as confident as my right hand soon.

There are loads & loads of wrap combos I need to learn, I keep putting rest beats on the off hand or both hands between wraps & I want to be able to go fluidly all over without a break at all, for that 'glowstringing' effect smile

btb weave, I'm ashamed to admit. I can do it now, poorly (one black eye later) but I just never bothered learning it before (its just like a weave only in a different place), but then it was getting embarrasing when people kept asking me to teach them it. Also I don't really do any hyperloop stuff, I just haven't concentrated on that area of moves, I'm definatetly more of a flower person.

I didn't realise exactly how shocking the gap in my knowledge was! I went straight from learning a 3-bt to reverse 3-bt to learning a 5-bt! Maybe I should actually bother to learn some more butterfly moves or reels sometime... =)

a lot of my stuff is pretty right side heavy too (right handed y'see)
hadn't even thought of turning with a windmill till yesterday... (oh, and what's this 'hard way' to do windmills and corkscrews??)

The hard way is just that....You know. Take the windmill, you probably find it easier to spin it in one direction as opposed to the other. The terms are properly CW and CCW however these differ in difficulty for different people, hence the hard and easy terminology.

Pricklyleaf, I'm ignoring hyperloops too, no reason, just not interested, guess that makes me old school.

I'd like to add horizontal BF buzzsaw, mainly because I can't figure out anything to do with this move that I don't do with the same direction one
