These sort of things have been around for ages. I know SETI use this to help them process data, and also some drug companies have this to help them screen for potential new drugs.

This new climate change one makes me laugh though. What do you think is the effect of all these computers being left running for longer to help them with their predictions?

I know these things have been around for a while. I also know it's a good idea for those who use computers, and already leave it on and inactive. I'm not encouraging anyone to purposely leave their computer unattended for this program.

will it factor in all the computers being left on longer than usual to run this and thus using more power and thus causing more fossil fuels to be consumed in the process?

I don't know, possibly...though I do know that I leave the computer for a brief time: to go to the toilet/ to get something to eat/because I become distracted, and that's all the program needs. It should keep going back to the calculations.



It's a worthwhile cause in my opinion, as the data is necessary for the world to make alterations to the way they're living.

The way Seti and other multi net networks ( ) like this is that the program that does the calculations is designed to run in the background whilst you are doing other things on your computer (browsing the web, altering a spreadsheet, watching porn) without using much more resources than usual.



So if you are using your computer anyway, it doesnt use any more electricity than normal.

So unless lots of people ran their computers soley for these programs, then yes, that would indeed waste more energy than the overal usefulness of having all the calculations done.

I would advise to start calling him UCOF, it makes things a LOT easier
