Recently I have been having issues maintaining fluidity when using my poi. I simply cant seem to be able to link in any of the moves when the poi are going in the same direction and when they are going in opposite directions. For instance going from any of the weaves straight into something like the butterfly without having to straighten up with a few extra beats. Doin' my nut in about it.

Try stalling one of the poi or wrapping round one of your arms, that should reverse the direction of the poi and allow you to go straight to and from butterfly.

welcome to Home of Poi

There are a number of threads here on weave\butterfly transitions that should help you out. Try [Old link] for one.

Getting a clean transition can be accomplished with stalls, wraps, taps and dual 90 degree turns to name a few but they all take practice.

You must be new.. Otherwise you'd know that practicing never helped anyone do anything.. It's just something we tell newbies to keep them occupied (kinda like searches) and stop them from asking serious questions..

... because if they ask serious questions they find out that we know as much as they do. wink

Seriously though, stalls and throws are the way to go. They tend to confuse the hell out of people especially btb or utl ones

I've been having the same problem, especially in full acts. I don't quite have my head around wraps yet, I'm the only one that I've met over here that tries any of them, so it's hard starting out.

soooo many ways to go from butterfly to weave and back. I personally prefertaps or single arm wraps. another quick way to do this is just change the planes by 90 degrees each. bit of a trick to get at first. posted about this before [url=https://www.homeofpoi.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB3&Number=520154&Forum=f3&Words=&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Main=516463&Search=true&where=bodysub&Name=24769&daterange=0&newerval=&newertype=&olderval=&oldertype=&bodyprev=#Post520154]here[/url but does take a bit of practice and timing. I recommend this way for starters then learning to do wraps. And if you are gonna do wraps be careful when you do them, don't wanna have an arm on fire now. I usually wait till the burn is aboiut halfway or so before i start wraping stuff and i wear long sleeves if i'm gonna do them.

stalls are also quite a nice way to change, and they are safe and when done well look pretty nice.

I once learned every move that there was,
Every style, Every technique.
Then I woke up, and forgot it all,
So now I struggle to dream.
