Hi all,

New here, first post. A bit about myself first, I guess - 18, living in Australia (Canberra), just finished school with a lot of time on my hands. I have been interested in getting into fire twirling for a while now and my main interest is in staffs (or staves confused). Dont know if there's anyone from my part of the world here, but I have noticed some from Byron Bay, Perth, Brissy etc. Say hi if you're based in Australia though, as Im doing a bit of travelling around in a month or two's time.

Just a quick beginners question to start off with, can anyone suggest a good site with instructions of the hand movements when twirling a staff (Eg does it roll over the back of the hand or is it always gripped?). I'll be heading out to the shed to dig up something to use as a practice stick tomorrow...

Thanks a lot,
Joel

welcome Joel.

For staff, as with any toy, no one way is right or wrong, but learning both is always assumed a good start... :-)

As this in intro's, people are more inclined to chat and be sociable...For staff related questions, have a look at the staff forum, and check out the instruction videos (top of this page, about the middle, titled "free lessons"

Wow, I see from some of the other posts that you guys are pretty serious about the whole chain-mail, buddy/horoscope/wish-come-true thing wink. I guess I better fill it out...

Name: Joel (JD)

Location: Canberra (Ok, just outside of it.)

Hometown: Ahh...lived in Sydney, Camden, Denver Colorado and Canberra. Take your pick.

DOB: 17 Sept

Age: A gentleman never tells. (Ok, 18)

Sex: Male (You thought I was going to write "Yes" didnt you?)

Occupation(s): Itinerant, student, itinerant student.

Favorite Food(s): Hmmm. Pizza. Cliche enough?

Favorite Color(s): With the recent race riots in Sydney, Im not sure that I want to answer that.

Toys: Yes.

Hobbies other than the obvious: I assume by "the obvious" you mean fishing, so no. Not really. Oh, fire twirling.

Education: Yes

Favorite Book(s): Anything by Lyall Watson

Favorite Movie(s): Whatevers on.

Favorite TV show(s): Scrubs, Coupling

Plans for life in general: (i.e. what you want to do when you grow up) Get rich young. Buy an island. Race in the Iditerod. Go basejumping in Utah. Commit the seven deadly sins in a weekend. You know, the usual.

Favorite Music Artists/Composers: At the moment, Goo Goo Dolls, Dave Gray, Powerfinger, bit of James Blunt (Dont hold that against me though)

Favorie ice cream flavor(s): Oh come on now.

Marmite, Vegemite, or Nutella? (please choose one...this is important as it is essentially this site's equivalent of stating your religion...we have religious wars, crusades, cathedrals to Nutella, all that.) Marmite? Please, dont get me started. It resembles a small, furry American mammal in name, colour and (I assume) flavour. Nutella is just a stale rip-off of chocolate - I think we can all visualise what it resembles. Vegemite is by far the superior option, though only when served on warm toast. And yes, I too was surprised by the vigour of my response to that question.

Happy? Then make a wish and send this to at least 10 friends. If you dont, Im sure some punishment will be arranged, probably involving rabid monkeys and pineapples. eek

Yes, yes, you can like James blunt as much as you want, as you redeemed yourself with your passion for the one and only King of Spreads for Toast. All hail the mighty Vegemite.

Thanks guys, nice to see some James Blunt- and rabid monkey-fans - its good to have both ends of the spectrum. And who you calling warped?! I thought you would have realised by now that I'm the sane one, it's just that everyone else is abnormal.

James Blunt is a bit whiny for my taste. If you're feeling down James learn to sing the blues! ubblol

Ok now I'm going to shut up, drink some tea and summon up the energy to get dressed and go to the post office.
